150 hps capacitor

i have to wire my light but i plugged in without connecting the capacitor and it still works.. is it important for the Cap to be connected ??

(i just have the ballast and ignitor wired)

a capacitor will take AC current and make it less of an alternating current current and more DC, your overall voltage differences would be lower, id would say its bad

so would it be ok to run 4 of these 150 watt lights on a 15 amp timer with a sort of small ac unit ?..and without those capacitors ?
