The green in the closet

I would like to thank you guys for all this hulpful info to get me started growing my own. I am a long time smoker, first time grower. My friend had some pretty good marijuana with some seed in it, this is something we don't see in our bags very often seed errR. I decided to keep them and see if i could make them grow into something decent. I did i little research on the net then germinated 4 seeds and 3 cracked. I planted them in dirt 1/2 deep lol i didn't have much of a veg room just a box with some aluminum foil and a light above that was way too far away. It didn't go very well i only got 1 health sprout out of the 3. I wasn't expecting anything to even happen LoL.

I germinated 4 more seeds and all 4 cracked so planted them in some soil (1/3) with vermiculite (1/3) and perlite (1/3). I also transplanted my other sprout into this mixed stuff it hurt her a bit because i stripped away the old mud. I'm building this room up as i go to make it better and efficient so suggestions are welcome. I'm a bit worried that they might turn out male or hermaphrodite so i ordered some seeds from a supplier for the next bunch. Here are some pics...

Lookin healthy. Kinda tall though. You can probably put those tubes right on the leafs. Just touch them with your wrist and make sure they wont burn you, if they dont feel hot get them real close.

Also you would be amazed at the ammount of light a foil reflector will produce, and for almost FREE.

O and are you going to use floresents all the way?

Yeah they are a bit stretched because i had the lights way too far away for the first week or so. The lights don't hardly put any heat out so they are alot closer now, almost touching the tubes. I am working on setting up my flowering room right next to the veg room. I will be using a HPS light for the flowering room but i'm not sure on the wattage yet probably 400w.

If you havent found the Here. link yet you should review it at this point.

What are the demintions of your room?
Also have you got a PH tester yet?

As for watering you want the soil moist not saturated. Also your plants will love you if you distill and airate their water.

For feeding I sugest finding a local distributer of GROW and BLOOM formulas that you can get advice from on that particular brand. If you want to be more percice on your fertilization regement follow Widows guide Here and use a PPM reader to adjust your fertilization levels.

The dimentions of my vegitative room are 41"X28"X78".
I do have a PH tester and our tap water here is okay (about 6.7-6.8, i keep my water at room temp in a 4liter jug(chlorine should dissipate).
As for the HERE guide it is great and most of my grow knowledge is from it, but i would like input from others too. There are many ways to grow marijuana and everyone has their own technique, so i am open to any suggestions from people that want to share.

Looks great so far. you want 1 gallon of space per foot of growth. def. get some nutes man. make sure you get hydroponic nutes that have everything the plant could need, i feel safer that way, dont overdo it and remeber to use the nutes at lesser strengths than on the bottle and slowly move up. alot of people measure this by ppm also, i just started the nuts myself and im seeing good results. i just put my hps up that i got today, 400w, wow is it bright.

You started off better than i did so you should have good luck, if you read my journal you will see i've been goin thru some shit with my ladies but i think i'm learning fast. Just have faith and read alot. dont read just 1 guide, as you said and know there are different ways to do things. develop your own way and if it works for you stick with it.

Good luck!

LOL Im making a spread sheet that has that same math (Lumes per Watt) and coverage of a shitload of diffrent setups.

Thanks for finding the "recomended" Lumes per square foot figure for me.

As far as more info is better definatly agree with you there. Read up and ask questions.

I should have feed them some water yesterday morning. By the evening they were looking very thirsty, so i had to give them good drink. Hopefully they will recover from this so i can transplant em soon.

I think i am going to use cfl's, MH put out alot of heat and sence this is my first grow i am gonna KISS (keep it simple stupid). I can always go with a MH later if i dont like the results and just use the cfl's for around the house.:joint:

Today i made some changes to my veg room, well first off i transplanted in to bigger pots. I then put in a shelf 2ft off the floor to raise my garden. I picked up 2 45w cfl's that are "regular, everyday light" and put out 2900 lumens each. I also bought 2 23w cfl's that are "cool white" and put out 1600 lumens each. I will be buying more cfl's soon and some light reflectors with sockets and wire. When i got home i had to destroy a few old lamps for the wire and sockets. I then put a couple hooks in the ceiling some rope.. you got the idea.

Can you Buy the 42w compact fluorescents in cool white at your local store, home depot, rona, wal-mat ect.?? I didn't see any. And should i use all "cool white" or all "regular, everyday light" or half & half for veggin? Any input would be greatly appreciated.:peace: :joint:

I had them under 2 3ft cool white & 2 3ft warm white flourescent tubes until yesterday.

Now i got 4 under 45w (soft white/regular,everyday light) and 1 plant under 2 23w (cool white).

I'll let you know how it goes.

they look overwatered...let the soil completely dry out so that when you stick your finger an inch down no soil sticks to your finger. they should get better. is it a coincedence that the one with 2 23watts is doing the worst?

I have a moisture meter so i do don't think they are overwatered, i let them get real dry before i water. But i did transplant them 4 days ago.. shock maybe?

naa, i just transplanted my mother to a bigger pot two days ago, and shes doing fine. and i added a lot of water. and i even almost broke her stem. stupid mistake. shes doing great though, its hard for plants to go through shock with that if you do it right

I changed my lighting 6 days ago, also did transplant about that time. I haven't seen any growth at all, the top leafs are curling under and the plants are starting to yellow from the bottom leafs, and working its way up. I haven't watered in a few days, soil is still moist. I'm thinking it could be time to start adding nutes.. is this a sign or is it something else?? :peace: :joint:

So i tested out our tap water here with my new test kit it's 7.6 . I have not used any Ph decreaser yet, i thought it was just under 7 according to my other test strips.
