Grow Tent Vent Question?!? NEED ADVICE

Hey I'm lookin into some grow tent vents and want to know what i could get away with keepin the temps down. Size of Grow tent is 20" deep, 36" wide, and 64" tall. the fans i'm lookin at are the 4" inline fan/carbon filter combo (170cfm) and the 6" inline fan/charcoal filter combo(424cfm). this fan will be venting the tent(housing a 400w hps with forced air cooling)(6" inline duct fan for the reflector 250cfm). I will buy the 6" if the 4" inline won't work. Has anyone seen a simalar setup where this has worked with a 4" inline fan? because i don't want to buy it and it won't be suffice. if anyone could get back quickly on this one it would be more than appreciated. Thanks, LogHead:leaf:

I just got the exact tent. I dont know if 4" fans will be enough as the tent is so small, it will easily heat up. Definitely with a 400w HPS.

Im running 8 CFLs and my tempts are still getting to around 95 degrees. I plan to go out and grab an AC unit to put into the room sometime this week.

I need to friend you tho bc I want to know how you setup your tent. Im still trying to figure out how I am going to do mine.

I have a 4x4x6 and I capped off a window AC unit and ran 6 inch ducting into the tent. Use the pre cut 4inch holes to cool your light with the inline fan and then cut your own 6inch hole and cap off an ac unit and run it into the tent. My tent wont get above 85 and when the AC is running its about 72 degrees

Do you know what the ambient temp is outside of your tent is? Also what kind of reflector do you have?

If your ordering the 20x36x64 tent from HTG, then know that the diagram they show is wrong.

I got two 4" ports (ones in back) and the two top and side's were 6in ports. Talked to them and they said that is the diagram the manufacture gives them, and they are not allowed to change it at all.

Picked up a 6500 BTU a/c unit today. Room is a lot cooler now. Tempts in tent are about 78. WAYY better than 95.

in the process of getting this tent and set-up too, cooltubes all the way for sure, and I was originally looking at the 4" inline but after your responses above 6" might be the way to go....

skoad you really had to put a full AC guy in there to just get it to 78?? What kind of lights are you running/reflectors??

I just had to buy a small A/C unit. It wasnt all the lights fault. The tent is inside of a closet, in a room at the far back of the house. The room is the furthest away form the house a/c unit so it doesnt get nearly as much cold air, then it being a tent inside the closet, it made it even worse. Without lights on it was only running around 78-82ish in there. With lights I was seeing 90-100 a lot.

Only running 8-10(dont always run all 10) 6500k CFLs.

Just make it easy and get a simple cool tube reflector and have it use 2 4 inch fans one taking air in and 1 taking air out. Temps will stay in the 70s...
what kind of ventilation does this grow have for the area itself? i see just the vent for the lights, but no tent ventilation.

Usually this has co2 so its a sealed room with only a few timed exchanges. It has 2 openings that i made which cant see in the pictures. One has a simple 4 inch inline fan that blows air in and one that sucks air out. These mount outside the tent just so I have more room. This was a converted storage pod thing i found at The Container store. They had them for $40 and only 2 flaws I had to deal with is that it doesnt have a frame its meant to clip to cieling joist and hang to the floor but I grabed some pvc and fitting and measure it out and made a frame for it. then the door was clear so again couple cans of non toxic plastic spray paint and prime and I painted the door. Primeed it white 2 coats inside entire tent and then outside the door blacked it out.. Its not a perfect tent but where its at its usually dark all day outside it so it works and toal investment was like $65 and it served me well for last 6 years.I use the 2 breather vents it had built in as air flow ports. I laso made velcro covers to seal them when not wanted. Lately i havent used co2 so i often will just opn the door when lights are on to drop temps low during flower to help purple the sweet purple but completely close with the 2 homedepot inline fans running and the fan inside moving the air it stays cool around 76 - 78 .. Best i yielded was just under 2 lbs dry in this tent with alot of attention now I just plug and play basically toss extra clones or what not that i cant bring myself to kill in it. Id say on like a 8-12 plant run its about an 12 oz- to 1 lb dry yielder with Fox Fram nutes. Good little side grower

Nice setups there F.F. I will be getting a grow tent very soon like within the next two weeks. Nothing as big as these but it will work. Its a 2x2x5 in feet wise, I plan on running a 400w hps air cool sealed hood (not a cool tube but) I have the 4" fan filter combo and also a bigger 6" stanely fan with supposed ratings of over 500 cfm. It cools the light very good and it has a fan switch built in so I can quiet it down whenever people are here unlike the NOISY ass 4" fan. If the 4" fan is this noisy I don't even want to know how loud the 6" is. I'm going with a more know company for fans next time. Like Hydrofarm or something. Anyways anyone think this will get to hot? Fall is coming in the next two months so I think I should be ok.

Yeah i have the little tents i actually have all size tents since I have my online hydro store so i play with all kinds of toys lol. Even though I have access to ton more stuff I keep finding I am so much more satified making my own stuff lol. Like these 250 cfm inline fans are like $15 at home depot I just wrap insulation relector around them and they run almost silent. The fans inside are new replacement air hockey table fans and run about 350 cfms and cant hear unles next tot he tent itsself.. i do have some like 850 cfm hydrofarm fans and they sound like a wind tunnel when by them though lol

The only thing I'm worried about is the ducting space inside the tent its gonna be crammed and the ports are only 4" and the reflector is 6" and so is the fan. I have the 4-6" reducers but they just take up so much freakin space. I guess I'll just have to play around with it once I get it. So what do you think about putting a fan switch on my 4" htg fan? She is a loud one....

Yesah i would say a switch would be fine but since its from HTG I wouldnt advise it. His stuffs pretty iffy as is and using a switch or fan control on it Id be afraid of fire from something from there. If it was a different company or major brand no issue but I don't trust Tony;s stuff for the most part
