Week 2 Plant Woes. Pictures

Heya all. SO these plants are just entering into their 3rd week from seed, and have started showing some problems. The run down.

Medium - 60/40 Peat Moss/Perlite.
Nutes - N/A added, .2-.2-.2 in the Peat Moss.
Water - When container is light.
Light - 8 26watt CFLs.
Temps - 75-94
Hum - 30-40%
Water PH - 7.2


The plants have gotten progressively worse in the last 48 hours. Some timelapse pictures to try and help. Any input? Their older siblings were the same way, but in a larger area with worse lighting, but I believe that was just Nutrient related.

Too much fertilizer! I just use MG 8-8-8. And add nothing! A month - 1.5 months and ready to dry! Try a CFL for the veg state you could just be poisoning them w/ light, if that is a S.H. 400W like it looks 2 be.


Ok: i just saw you sig. and if those are CFL's, what spectrum are they, they need to be daylight (6500k G.E.'s @ wal-mart 2 for $7). also u should remove the reflective tape from the floor, the underside of the leaf cannot absorb light, it actually burns them!

That is what they are under. =) They have yet to be nuted... it is the stuff that comes in the grow medium.... can't help that it's in there, my neck of the woods doesn't have neutral peatmoss/perlite, so I have to make due. Thanks for stopping in!!

I don't get it? Then ur better off using dirt from outside, rather than over-fertilize? So it is a SH 400w? Ur burning them up in so many ways then. They have more of a chance in front of a window in yard-dirt. IMHO.

I think you are confused here. As I said in the first post, they are under 8 26watt cfl's. What I am saying is that there is a very small chance that over-fertilization is the problem here. Simply because the medium has traces of nutes in it. Does that make more sense?

OK, first of all, I am not the one asking for help.
2nd, as I said, if there are too many nutrients in the medium, it is useless at this stage of growth, hence: Try Something Else.

Hmmm, I'm doubtful that .2-.2-.2 would be strong enough to result in nutrient "burn". Could be like the other poster said that the reflective material in the bottom of the box is reflecting light onto the bottoms of the leaves and burning them. Your cups have drainage holes, right?

Could be that he turned off some of the lights for the picture, or could just be the camera settings making it look that way. It's hard enough to take a picture of a plant that actually turns out to look like that plant, when you add artificial lighting and reflective surfaces it really makes things look wonky.

you dont want that light speactrum dominant in veg get some light that have a blue hue....do u have a fan in there they look overwaterd and hot

Thanks for the input ya'll. Lemme shoot you a picture of the thing from the outside.

As for watering, they have been watered whenever the pots lose about 60-70% of their total weight. I am confident that I am not *over* watering, but they did just get watered about 36 hours ago.

So in checking in on the plants, they are still hurtin'

I shut off four lights, and two of the remaining bulbs are in the blue spectrum. Hopefully this will control heat during the daytime.

Bump in hopes that someone can offer a solution... They are getting worse by the hour.

After thi lights came on this morning, they looked worse than ever. I am going to water them with a small nutrient suppliment tonight to see if that helps them at all. I feel as I have done nothing wrong thus far, other than possably heat.

hrmm. Well, I was definetly watering more this time than I was last time... They are in smaller containers and the perlite was turning yellow on top... i assume from the heat of the cfls... So it was drying out rather quickly.... It honestly felt like there was nothing but dried up soil in the cups. i suppose I will go a few days without watering and see what happened...

Any second opinions? I would love to see some pictures of a similar plant or plants and see what worked for them.

So I changed the percentage of the medium composition. I decided that since the soil was running out of water so much, I was watering more.... thus releasing a shitload of nutes on my baby plants. So. I changed to 70/30 for a ratio, and also presoaked the meduim before transplanting. I didn't have any larger containers, so these plants will be stunted for a week or so, because the roots were fucked with pretty bad. Hopefully things will turn around... If they don't then I will start a new group with beter understanding of how to grow in MG.
