I'd use that to 12/12 from seed/clone, gotta remember that LED light penetration so the shorter the plants the better.

I'd just go with more short plants rather than "underfeeding" big plants with LEDs and Floros. It'll all work I just think you'd like the results from more, shorter plants.

Dude i can tell you right now that wont do much more then keep a stretchy mother plant alive. With that kind of power the buds will be horrible. You need atleast a 120W LED , and that 50Wer mounted vertical on the sides of the plants. My advice.. Add like 2 or 3 300W (equivilent) CFL's 3200K(flower) and 6500K(veg) And keep them closeish to the goods.

They seem to be a little confused as to how much light plants need to grow. They say it's equal to a 250w hps, and that it will cover 8.3 sq ft. But a 250w hps only covers 4 sq ft, so they have something askew there. I tend not to trust companies that fudge such rudimentary principles of growing.
Also, as Fuzzotany points out, the light penetration from LEDs is, in a word, shite. They need to be right in next to the plant to have any real effect. Imo the only use for these led boards is for experimenting with, but I've yet to see an led grow yield anything like what's possible with HIDs.
If you're tight on space or cash, get cfls. If you got the room, the cash and you want the best, get hid. Maybe one day leds will take over but until then, spend your money wisely, on a tried and true method that has been proven time and again to give excellent results.

Actually your wrong. A great way to save on energy is germing your seeds, when they sprout stick them under an all blue LED panel... Then when they root stick them in the veg chamber whihch is a 120W Triband LED and a 50W triband Panel, Run the LED for 12HR a day and then the 250W HPS and LED for 6 additional hours. When its flower time Full 120W triband LED, a 90W triband LED , 50W Triband LED panel, 250W HPS And two 300W (EQI) CFL 2300K's and one 10.0 CFL UVB bulb.. 12 hours daily.


By the way dude.. Experimenting with different variations of lights is the best way to find out what works.

By the way that 50W panel isnt even close to equivlent to a 250W hps

The best lighting possible is a mixture of all of the different technologies blended together..

Save energy compared to what? That's an average of 230wh over 18 hours for veg, then about 600w for flowering, which coincidentally is about the same as I use with HID alone. Roughly how much would 2x 120w triband led, 1x 90w triband led, 2x 50w triband led, 2x 250w hps, 2x 65w cfls and a uv cfl cost? My hps was £60 complete, the mh was £40 but I had to convert the ballast to remote.
I have experimented with leds, fluoros, cfls, mh and hps and found that nothing gives quite the same rate of growth as hid. I did have leds around the sides of my veg plants until a few days after my 250w mh arrived, as the plants were ignoring them and just turning towards the big light.
I do agree with you on the uvb, that's the next stage of my experimentation, I'll be running a side by side test to determine just how much it will gain me in the next few weeks.

By the way dude, noone refers to cfls by their equivalent wattage except the people trying to sell them to you.

Thanks guys. I liked the debate. I think im going to use a 150 watt ecoplus growlamp flouro and 3-4ft. flouro's on each four walls, so thats twelve. Would that be good?

Yeah that led wont do shit for what you want it too. LEDS cost you more than any other light, regardless of how much energy they save. The claims that a 50w are equal to 250hps and 90w is equal to 400hps is the complete opposite. You need about 500w led to equal 250hps and 800w led for 400hps. The only ones that appear to be decent are the tribands and they cost has much as a handful of hps to equal the same result. So i would go with led, just get you some cfls for a fraction of the cost and you will be happy. Dont go led unless you plan on supplementing with other types of light.

I got 4-4ft 3k-5k shop lights, two 42watt 27k flouros, and one 105 watt floro 65k. Growing space is 21'' wide x 28 1/2'' long x 39'' tall. What can I do with that??

After talking (in person) to an experienced grower (15 years), he said most of the stuff on the net about growing is bs.

He tried almost everything and almost every growing technique and says dont believe everything you hear.

He's never done LEDs, so I told him, im going to try. You can get 100 leds for under $10 USD depending on the type. You can get a power supply from any electronics surplus store for cheap.

The price for LED bulbs is nuts, you can build your own for a fraction of the price.

What im trying to say is dont believe EVERYTHING you hear. Most people will use a new technique, fail, then say that it sucks and never do it again.

You want a tried and proven techniuqe, grow in soil and outdoor. Thats the only one I know thats been around for generations.

You want to try some of these new techniques? Try, fail, experiment, redo, adapt and LEARN. Thats EXACTLY what I'm doing. Develop your own green thumb.

But you still need to research and learn from other people, for example if you are using LEDs that cost $10 100 they wont do anything for you. The ones you will need are about $5 a piece.
