Seedlings/Clones under 400w MH?

Is it ok to grow seeds, from sprout, in soil under a 400w MH? What about clones from a local club, would they be ok to go directly under the 400w MH?

The room is 5x6 with aluminum reflective insulation material on all walls. Temp is in check (83 daytime, 73 nighttime), c02 is at 2000 ppm controlled, RH is 40-50%. Soil temps are around 74 degrees. Soil is Roots Organic mix, should be good stuff from what I was told...

The plants are growing, and seem to have recovered from the initial shock of transport, but they seem pale in color, almost yellow, and the leaves are now "closing", like the petals are folding in on themselves. What is going wrong here?

Here are some possible causes:
-shock of transport
-watered them with unbalanced ph water first time
-sprayed a "safe" bug spray on them.

They layed down bad at first, but then they made a come back and they all stood back up, but they just dont seem to be thriving IMO. It has only been two days, so I know i may just be worrying too much, but they just dont seem happy when theyre leaves are closing and they arent dark green in color.

Any ideas?

The clones are ChemDog and the seedlings are Mandala's Satori btw. The light is approximately 2' above the plants and the temp at the plant is 83.

Thanks a lot for reading and for any help!

you might try raising the light to about 3 feet to see if it helps. I keep my 400 at 3 feet or more over new seedlings or young clones and work it down to about 18 inches as the plant grows.

i would have to agree with previous posts, keep light back with that much power. yes it is fine to use 400w this early. imo its overkill. flourescents work great, are cheap to run, and don't build heat. when ur kids are well established(rooted), let them feel the fury of that 400w. good luck, and here is one to you:joint:
p.s. pictures are really helpful for diagnoses

So I moved the light from 24" up to 36" and they immediately started looking better. I left it that way for two light cycles, then dropped it down 5". They kept looking good, so I dropped it another 4" or so to where it is now at 28" Everything's looking good and the leaves are darkening up everyday!

You could probably cut that heat down by taking down the aluminum foil and get some mylar. Foil is a heat conductor. BAD. Go to the grow store and get a fluro, $25. Efficient!

Mylar also conducts heat, electricity, and is flammable.
