Help needed in the UK!

So my newly bought, second-hand cool tube arrived in the post today, to be the crowning glory in my chili grow room...The glass was completely smashed; I was gutted.

I refuse to pay £50+ for a 125mm cool tube, and thus need some suggestions as to alternatives. I would prefer to build my own cool tube, but here in the UK, the Bake-a-rounds are nowhere to be seen here. Hurricane lamp fittings are never wide enough either.

Can anyone in the UK (and the rest of the world, of course) help me out here?

Thanks for any advice...Grrrr, damn courier service.

i've no experience of cool tubes, never needed to use one. if i have the right idea about how they work, you could just buy a sheet of glass and a glass cutter (the wee hand held kind, pretty cheap if i remember correctly) and slice it to whatever size you need i suppose, fix it to the front of the reflector and stick a vent on one end and a fan on the other? probably sort the lot for like 20 quid

but that might not work and i'm definitely not speaking from experience...i may have completely misunderstood the core issue here

or do a new thread that's not titled UK readers, call it like 'how to diy a cooltube' or something and you'll probs get more views and some waaaay more experienced answers...i'm probably not that much help sorry.

good luck though bro

I resorted to ordering a bake-a-round from ebay usa, it ended up being about £25 with shipping. I've found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PROLITE-AIR-COOLED-GROW-LIGHT-REFLECTOR_W0QQitemZ250406085454QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBulbs_JN?hash=item3a4d5da34e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65:3|66:2|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50 for £20 more, and this type of reflector should be better than a cooltube. When light passes through curved glass, it is refracted, diffusing the light.
I found I get better results since I removed the 'tube and just have a fan pulling air through ducting away from the bulb (ghetto rigged, end of ducting cable tied to the reflector).
If you're not convinced and still want a cooltube, pm me and I'll send you mine for £20 ;-)
