New sprouts die in 2 days!

I have grown successfully before... however I am so confused to why I cannot get back in the game! The seeds germinate and rise to an inch then shrivel up and die as soon as i put them in soil. I water them in and use a small flourescent bulb for now. I just want to get it started so I can xfer to my hydro setup. It almost seems to be a fungal problem but heck if I know...:?

Help! Thanks.

an inch? you're waiting way too long. try 1/8" taproot. maybe germinate into rockwool or something inert and check your soil what are you using.

I am using miracle grow soil. I need to get some rockwool.... where do i get it? I have touched the stems but not the roots.

I like the idea of starting with rockwool. You can start with soil, but you need to use something that doesn't have nutes in it. Just plain ol' organic soil mixed with equal parts of vermiculite and perlite.

The soil is likely kiling your seedlings. Are you starting them in small cups or their final pots? Final pots can be difficult to water when they are very small.

in small starter pots.... however could this be possible that the little gray bugs are eating them. i just noticed some recently. what is a good pest control to use for this? thnx!

Germinate your seeds IN the soil and you won't have any problems. I just had 6 of 6 come up within 4 days. IMO Any other method of germination requires too much handling and too much margin for human error.

I agree. No reason to germinate outside of the soil. I really don't know why people use the ridiculous "Paper Towel Method". Just creates opportunity for fuck ups.

I've had 100% germination success directly in rockwool and soil without the paper towel bullshit.

I don't know why this crap keeps getting spread around as if it's THE way to germinate seeds. It's only THE way if you want to fuck it up. I've also germinated directly in the AeroGarden with 100% success also, never lost a seed, never touched a papertowel.

Wow how do you germinate in an aero garden directly from seed? I'd like some more info on that :)
Just put the seed in the sponge and turn it on. The easiest setup in the world. Make sure to poke a hole in the bottom of the sponge so the root can find it's way, but that pretty much covers it.

well, i use the ridiculous "Paper Towel Method" and i have actually become pretty successful at it. but i would never recommend it as THE way to germinate seeds because a lot of shit can go wrong and ruin good seeds. i know i've had better success with the paper towel than just floating seeds in water. but these are the only two ways that i have attempted.

what i don't understand is why is icedoutkush germing seeds in soil to transfer to hydro?? it makes sense to germ seeds in soil (like i do for my garden), but i've never grown weed in soil so i didn't think that was a good germ method for hydro because i would be transferring dirty roots to my hydro setup. but as always, i could be totally wrong in my thinking.

I don't know HOW I missed that. Why would you germinate a seed in a paper towel, then put it in soil and attempt to transfer it to hydro? Why not just germinate the seed in rockwool for hydro? What kind of hydro setup do you have?

I missed that too LOL I stopped reading when i got to "transfer them to soil" and assumed he was growing in soil. I never heard of germinating in soil for a hydro gro.

Soak the seeds in a glass of water for 24hrs and plant them.

I say fuck the paper towel bullshit as well. More shit to go wrong.

yeah, but there's no need to soak the seeds in a glass of water for 24 hours either. Just do it the natural way. Put the seed in the medium, wet the medium. Keep it moist and warm and the seed will come up.

I hear ya. I just want to give them a jump start.
I have said fuck the paper towel bullshit about 65 times.

What ya think about topping? We could be related.

Fuck topping, fucking FIM and quit fucking around. If you want 4 tops, grow 4 plants.

I understand maybe some plants do better with this shit, but I don't bother with it. Just fill the room with as many plants as it takes to get what you want and you don't have to veg as long.

We are brothers! If you were a woman we would be lovers! LOL

Good growing to you!

well I usually transfer from soil to hyrdoponics... I have perlite for my medium so I grow it in soil then plant it in the perlite hyrdo setup when it gets big enough. I just hate soil period though ><

That just doesn't make any sense. You dig the plant out of the soil and clean the roots then try to transplant in perlite?

Or do you put the entire soil ball in the perlite? I guess that would technically work, but ewww, that's dirty for no reason. Just use something like Jiffy Pellets or rockwool or something.
