yeah you have to be a complete retard to believe that. people often forget how long the earth has been around and the fact that everything is a cycle. so all this planets lining up, earth lining up with the center of the milky way yada yada yada.... thats all happened before. and look were still here today.
It's tempting to call people retards, when you don't have all the information. The 2012 cycle happens every 22,000 years or so. (Longer then recorded history of humans.) Therefor, the Mayans didn't even know what the end of the cycle would bring. They just knew there heavenly calenders stop at the year 2012. Some predicted doom, an end to the world, the way ALL religions do. They just also happen to have a date.
Well, there here have been many mass extinctions in prehistory. If the galactic alignment happens to flip the north and south poles, that would be all it takes to confuse a large percentage of animals using internal polar navigation, which could result in mass extinctions. Human navigation would be temporarily halted, to be sure. And the storms generated could be catastrophic.
But it doesn't have to be like that.
I actually look forward to 2012. Doom and gloom isn't the only prediction. This alignment also signals the dawning of a new astrological age; the age of Aquarius, which is supposedly marked with great enlightenment for humans as a whole. It will cycle into another dark age eventually 2,600 years later, most likely again at the hands of greedy humans, politicians and religious leaders.
But for a while at least, all of human religions have been shown to be based on the same ancient astrological worship of the zodiac; including the Mayans. And all traditionally agree that the Aquarius age will bring about liberation to humanity from oppression.
If the story has merit, I posit it may be technology which will simultaneously used as our agent of oppression, but then our liberator. But it must involve people all along the chain of command from the oppressive regimes they serve, tapping into their humanity and standing up for their fellow humans for it to work.
Maybe hackers will unite and expose the horrific lies of the world governments and businesses. Or steal back the many hidden inventions of free energy to break us from the mass control of evil corporations.
As Jimmy Hendrix said: "When the power of love overcomes our love of power, we will know peace." The Age of Aquarius is supposed to be marked by such a awakening.
But that's if you believe in astrology, which I do not. But I do believe in the unknown of a galactic alignment. There may be great power struggles at work with the 4 forces of nature converge.
