Stupid AC unit question, but please help anyways

Hi all,

Temps in my room are out of control and need to be fixed asap.

With my 2x1000 watters on temps are at a crazy 95 degrees even with my fans running.

I have Ac in the room coming out a ceiling vent but it seems like its not helping at all.

I want to get a portable AC unit of a window AC unit but cant because the windows I have are not compatible for them.(they open from the middle)

So here is my 2 incredibly dumb questions but i figured i would ask it anyways.

1.) Could i simply buy a window AC unit and just set it on the floor near the plants and plug it in? Would this still produce cool air?

2.) Could i buy a portable Ac unit that comes with a hose, but instead of putting the exhaust hose out the window could i cut a hole in my door that leads up into my attic and run the hose through there? or would that not work because the air in the attic would be far too hot to produce cool air? I am probably stupid for saying this but does the exhaust hose for the AC unit exahust hot air the ac unit produces or does it suck in air that it turns into cold air that then comes out of the front of the unit?

Call me dumb or whatever you like haha but i would much rather figure out my Temp problem and get my babies healthy and be called dumb, rather than never ask and not produce optimal conditions for my babies

Thanks a bunch

you can't put a window unit on the floor...the back of it needs to be outside to exhaust the hot air...otherwise you will be blowing cold air out the front and hot air out the back of the unit...and for your portable, you are not sucking air through that hose...you are using it to exhaust hot air the a/c unit produces...so running into attic would be fine

awesome thanks for your reply. how much do you think that this will be able to lower temps in my room if i put the unit right next to my plants?

whats the size of your room? i am guessing pretty big if you have 2 1000w lamps...you are going to need something with enough btu's to cover how ever many square feet you have...

How big is your room? Do you need 2 1000's? Have you looked into cool tubes?
I have a 12ftx12ftx8ft tall room. I shouldnt need cool tubes when i have two air cooled hoods that are basically the same as cool tubes. they have glass inclosures for the lights in which air is sucked through the fixture to cool it.

yeah its 12x12x 8ft tall so i was thinking about getting like a 10,000 btu would suffice

One thing you may want to watch out for is too much cooling during light off cycle. The lights will generate enough heat that you will have to set the temp low. When the lights go off the temp can drop a lot (my rooms can drop 20 degrees). Putting the AC on a timer can help, but some ACs reset when the power is cut off. One of mine resets to 77 degrees - not nearly enough to keep temp at 79. the other just comes back on at the prior temp. Do a little research and you will be fine

yep that was the plan. Use the AC during the lights on cycle and then cut it off during the lights off cycle. Not only will this keep the room at optimal temps but will also save money on electricity
