When I shut the door to my grow room with my 400W HPS on, light pours out of the cracks through the door and it's really obvious that I got something going on in there. I have the family coming over today so I'm gonna have to shut the light off for a couple of hours. I have a lock on the door but still...I don't know how I could explain the amount of light they will see coming out of that room if anyone happens to wander upstairs. I'm about 5 weeks into flower and this will be a one-time thing only. Normally there are absolutely no interruptions during light/dark cycles.

How much is this going to affect my plants?

It's not going to make a noticeable difference. You could get foil tape to cover the cracks if you're really worried about it.

ive heard of people doing 24 hr dark in the middle of flower as well as when switching to flower and right b4 harvest but i dunno. id just take 14 hrs of dark that day and rusume lights at normal time next day

IMO I dont think will effect then too much. My timer screwed up on my second grow and had them in light for 22 hours in the 4th week of flowering . I corrected the problem and never noticed any differents . Just as long as you dont do it again , you should be fine.

Plants don't get stressed with artificial lights going off and on. Botanists used to wonder about this. The sun gradually comes into view and gradually out, while artificial lights are pretty much binary(on or off). Numerous studies have concluded this gradual change is not required and is not markedly beneficial or detrimental. The net solar energy collected is all that matters to the plant in a day. Normal solar energy slopes up to a peak, and slopes down to zero, like a hill or mountain. Artificial light is basically a straight line of constant intensity. You don't need near the peak of the sun's solar energy hitting Earth (10,000 lumens per sq foot) to give the plant equivalent collected energy over the day. Constant 5,000-7,000 lumens per sq foot(varies by lamp type), over the day (16-18 or so hours) can be the exact same net total energy as the plant would get outdoors from the sun.

I agree with you on somethings tea tree, but no indoor light setup can ever beat the sun. and also isnt the whole point of growing indoors is to simulate the outdoors for the plant, but with a controlled environment?

i was gonna say the same thing......but did u say u can lock the door? just do that and keep the lights on in that room....or get a snake and say its a heat lamp deal for them or something that the snake needs on at all times....they will want to see it so if ya want u can show em just not in that room take him into the living room or something.....keep the door locked at all times and tell everyone its off limits......plus ya get a cool new pet too lol

No, and no. Artificial light is often used to supplement the sun itself! The sun is easily outclassed by high-end artificial light and CO2 enriched environments.

There are many things we simulate, but others we 'throw away' because nature is not, by any means, perfect. We can improve on it greatly, and have. That's why crops are grown 'artificially' in the first place.

beat the sun? correct but a grower who's gotten real good and done it for a while can just about equal the sun(or a grow op....this one in canada thats always shown on these documentries about medical mj and stuff he had like 500-1000 6 ft trees.....each and each and every one had its own 1000w hps (bought wholesale straight from factory he said) and it was in this incredible hydro system, he grows for like 40 or 50 other people. he gets hundreds of pounds each harvest he was saying. shows name is like cannabis inc. or something like that....oh yeah i forgot the guy had this crazy c02 system too....it was godly watching the tour of that grow op and the guy who explains it....and owns it lol does a really good job explaining, he made it seem extremely easy to set up his 5 gallon hydro setup for yourself(he makes one for us to watch while explaining step by step)
