Hello. I am currently thinking about building a water culture system to grow about 4-5 plants in. I plan on using a common design I've found on the net using a fish tank(10 gallons) a pump, bubble stone, styrofoam, some gravel and some posterboard.
I understand how to build this but I have never ventured into hydro before so not exactly sure how this works.
This is my impression of this device. Once built, my plants will be in cups or whatnot placed in the styrofoam with water and nutrient solution. I'll have the pump turned on creating the bubbles which will provide oxygen to the roots? My question is here...will I have any problems controlling root rot if my plants' roots' are in constant contact with water/solution or will the oxygen from the bubbles prevent this?
And will the water/solution just evaporate after a while requiring a re fill?..As you may be able to tell I am quite new at this but if someone can explain this to me I'd be grateful.
