Led/ufo grow lights

Looking in an old HIGH TIMES I saw an ad for a Procyon 100. Read through it and s with most ads I was half sold and half a sceptic. Less power for more wattage output seems no brainer. Not to mention the complete light spectrum needed for the plants we all want to grow.
My obvious question is, do they work?

I also looked for smaller LED for smller coverage area figuring smaller would= cheaper and found this light for wayyyyyyyyy cheaper. http://www.thelashop.com/catalog/225...nel-p-395.html.

18"x18" is close to the size of my almost finished grow cabinet but its such a cheap light, sceptic in me says its TOO cheap.
Is it? Is it toogood to be true?
thx in advnce

damn that shit is a waste of money
How do you know?
article in feb 2008 HT said it did close to the same as 600 WT HPS, only using 90 watts of power. with very little heat.
too just say, "damn that shit is a waste of money" you must have more info than that right?

Ok, aside from LED/UFO's being WAAAYYYY overpriced even on ebay, they can't give you the same results as even good flouro's can. I used to sell lights, bulbs and other electrical stuff, and I'll be the first to tell you that most LED's simply don't have enough discharge to give you a respectable grow. Now that's not to say all don't, but for the initial cost alone, your better off using more traditional light sources.

Do a search, talk to Treeth. There have been many discussions regrading LED's. There are a couple of threads going now where people are testing them.

If you got the money, but them and tell us how they work, for now you cant go wrong with a HPS,

I have an led grow panel 45, and it works great for seedlings and starting plants off, but i am switching to to the HID after about 3 weeks.

Here is the problem, Rabid Cow came out swinging and nailed it,

"Less power for more wattage"

This statement makes no sense, does it?

Everyone wants to think led's are somehow magic.

News flash! They represent only a small gain in efficiency, talking about lumens per watt, or however you want to measure luminous flux.

The real innovation is in the form factor, and in the necessarily discrete thermal management.

one cannot get away with less "raw" power. it is inescapable. No matter what spectrums are used.

yeah........
magic tricks are neato.
i had a grow 11 years ago and used a 1000 wt hps. electric bill was insane. also insane was the heat that bulb put off. so when a company claims to have a light that solves those 2 problems, naturaly i want to look into it.
that prcyon 100 is so expencive that it makes me think it works (lol right). it was the 2cd light that mde methink somthing wa fishy. 40 us dollars for a light that replaces a 400 watt hps, using 50 watts or somthing............ could buy 5 of them for 200$ ..........

sigh....... ofcourse it was way to good to betrue, thx ery1

Well,

The procyon is worth about that much.

They use a legitimate brand of high powered LEDs and the required circuitry; which are sourced from a company called cree...

They do not use the cheapo 5/3 mm ones used in the panels as seen advertised on ebay, which are made in some gray faceless chinese factory somewhere near the coast....

However the procyon is still not enough power!

It takes a setup with multiples of those lights, either model, to do what an HPS will flower.

well......... sounded like the way to go.guess i will buy a 250 hps. i just didnt want to put that much heat in such a small space. (https://www.rollitup.org/seed-strain-reviews/201582-looking-right-strain-small-space.html)
thanks for the breakdown treeth

Did you ever get your LED??? I use led, MH, and then HPS for flowering and things work out great, but let me know what you did. Would like to hear.

Phillips has made a 5 watt LED, but it doesnt come in the specfic wavelength that I want. I have been looking into LED grow lights and found that they dont offer the specific wavelengths that I want.

Before you buy any LED setup, ask your self wether or not the wavelengths emited is the wavelength that you want. So far, I have not bought any LED setup because non have given me the specific wavelength that I want.
