gogrow needs help with ventilation

i was gonna put my op in the attic, but am having second thoughts... doing it in the attic would be a bitch, so i have bargained with the wifee and can now do it in a spare room:bigjoint:... i plan to exhaust my hot air through the attic of course, but a few uncertainties have came up in my mind.....

i planned to try to use one fan to cool the light and for air exchange for the room.... passive air intake at bottom of tent. dont really know how to do any drawing of this thing but try to follow me here......

carbon filter
430 cfm can fan

light ============= <--- airflow

does this make any damn sense??? or am i missing something?

You carbon filter is hooked up to the 430cfm at the top with passive air intake at the bottom to cool the light?

I would add another one or two small fans to increase fresh air intake and circulation.

Is the spare room cooled with forced ventilation?

do i want to push air through the filter, or pull it?? or does that matter??

but yes, the other side of the light will be open to pull air through, as the tent is sealed, i figured it would suffice, with a intake hole at the bottom of the tent, to effectively cool the light, and exchange my room air...... hope im not too confusing here.

That will work. what size fan? Do you have fresh air intake for the spare bedroom? You could have your air intake hooked up to a modified window opening and still be passive but, pulling fresh air. Look arond the site. Plenty of good ideas.

Push / pull it does'nt matter. Some say push air over light. What's the dif, air is still cooling the bulb. I pull mine (too much info, haha).

Good luck,

its a 430cfm can fan....

i dont have a specific fresh air intake, but my house is old and drafty.... plenty of co2, but i planned on putting an ac in the room and just pulling air from inside the room, since it will be MUCH cooler than outside(its 10am and already 88f outside).... any reason i shouldnt pull my air from inside the bedroom??

and i wasnt talking about the bulb... i meant the carbon filter, should i push or pull the air through it?

I pull air thru my carbon filter on one cab and push it thru on the other. Same 430 cfm fan on both and same results....not to be confusing, but I have 2 fans, 2 cabs. Just in case someone thought I used the same fan for both cabs.

cool... i am getting the idea that my setup will work.... i still think i may end up having to add a small fan to get a little extra "ummph" out of it....

gotta finish my breakfast smoothie and another bowl, and it is back to it.... i'll make a thread with pics documenting the progress and link it here, if you have nothing else to do today, check it out.

but back to a previous question... is there anything wrong with pulling my fresh air in from the ac cooled bedroom??

i dont see any problem with that as long as you have enough fresh air getting into the spare room to replace what your taking out of it.
do you plan to run a duct through the attic to the outside? or just vent into the attic? since you have a filter there is no smell but you still have the heat going into the attic if venting into the attic. you could get an attic ventilator with a built in thermostat and set it for 100 degrees F. so it will cool the attic off a bit. i dont vent into the attic but i have an attic fan anyway to help cool it down so my central air doesnt run so much.

my house was built back in the depression... it is setup for no ac.... we have a huge fan in the center of the house in the ceiling... sucks air from house, blows it out the attic which has 2x2ft vents on 3/4 sides... not worried about heat up there:bigjoint:

yes ive seen those big fans. you dont want to be in the attic and fall into it. it will eat you alive. i missed the ebay deal of the day this morning for a portable a/c for $199.00 it was sold out by the time i saw it.
my intake is outside air and summer is coming. so out comes the cooltubes real soon.

keep us posted with your soon to be new set up.

yeah those fans are mean... its like 36in and has a 1hp motor... doesnt really do much to cool the house in the heat of summer, but it does keep my attic from building up heat...

tent is setup... just need to get a skilsaw over here... momma is pickin that up as we speak... i suppose i COULD be up and running by tonight, but i have alot more to get done around the house:cuss:

hooking up a prtable ac was the best thing ive done yet - no more trying to keep the room temp steady in a big, drafty 60 year old house! I got a danby one with the dual hose exhaust system at best buy. More than I wanted to spend but it has already paid for itself in lowering my stress level. The reviews werent steller but mine seems to be doing a great job. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8625561&st=danby+portable+dual&type=product&id=1193452148080

Now, it might not be needed much next go round as I plan to test using the hid's for limited "bursts" of light and depending more on the led bars. I am really stoked about trying that but didnt have the balls (or enough led bars) this round.
