ik, when i germ my seeds, can i transplant them into rockwool cubes? then before i put them in nets, and add my medium, how do i keep it wet to wait for the roots to show? eventually i will place net pots in homemade bubbleponics setup. can anyone fill me in on some steps? i have read so much, my mind is boggled.

what i do is i mist the rockwool cube almost daily, maybe 3 pumps by spray bottle, but heres a tip, first soak your cube, then try to remember how heavy it feels when its wet, so you can feel if its light so you can water, dont keep wetting it just for the sake of doing so, you will suffocate your tender tap root, rockwool retains water very well. oxygen is key, if you water it too often you will deprive your seed

before you put your popped seeds into the rock wool you have to soak your rockwool for 24 hours.if you dont the ph in your rock wool will fluctuate and if it doesnt kill your seedling it will definatly stunt growth.

Pre-soak RW cubes for 24h in water adjusted to pH 5.0. Drain the pre-soak soln completely; a salad spinner works great. Subsequent watering should be done with plain water, adjusted to pH5.8.

Use 40mm RW cubes; the bigger ones hold too much water for too long. The water can lose all dissolved O2 before enough water evaporates or is used by the cutting/seedling to need watering again.

The surest way to gauge watering is by weight. A 40mm wrapped RW cube weighs 5g dry, 20-25g when properly damp. Heavier that that is too wet; too much air will be driven out of the cube. Lack of oxygen in the media will cause poor root formation and will encourage pythium and/or fusarium, which gives you stem tip rot in clones or root rot in seedlings. You can water RW cubes by dipping just a corner in a bucket of pH5.8 water.
