Well, my first grow is a few weeks from harvest. I originally began as a "what the heck why not" type thing under a few cheap clfs. I started with only bagseed, planting about 12 seeds.
A week into it, I had ordered a 400 Watt HPS/MH system, and my first 10 seeds from nirvana had arrived, California Orange Bud.
Looking back, this is where I made my first mistake.
Lesson #1: Don't use bagseed. I shoulda have tossed most of my bagseed plants after getting those nirvana seeds. As it was, I planted 5 of the cali orange bud. As we shall see shortly, bagseed is not worth your effort.
So at this point I had 17 plants, and I was expecting 20 more nirvana seeds coming in. I decided to convert a second closet to growing, receiving my second 400 wat HPS/MH system about 3 weeks after the first.
Ordering seeds and lights brings me to a second potentially major mistake I could have made.
Lesson #2: ORDER YOUR SEEDS AND EQUIPMENT WELL BEFORE YOU NEED THEM. Remember the nice folks that sell lights and seeds are probably baked all the time. 80% of my orders have had comlications. I know I am an exception, but both HTG and nirvana have severely screwed up several orders. I like HTG, but they've forgotten to even ship three of my orders now. I make it a habit after placing an order to call them two days later if I haven't gotten the UPS shipping notificaiton. If you don't, they won't notice a mistake they made until you call them. This can be a disaster if you need a bulb by a certain time. Even nirvana seeds... they are on a three order mess up streak with me. The last two orders got shipped back to them BECAUSE THEY FORGOT TO PUT THE HOUSE NUMBER. Yup, two in a row. As I said, stoners are everywhere in this business.
Ok, so I got my genetics now, and my bagseed, and my expensive fertilizers. Now the bagseed comes back to almost bite me. Four weeks into it two of them develop two male parts each. They only pollinated half of a bud each, but still had I not noticed them (and they missed several searches as they were buried well) they could have ruined the genetics. Bagseed ain't worth growing.
Heres a summary of what I got so far:
Two 400 watt HPS/MH systems, one in each closet. A total of 12 female plants between the two closets. Of those, two are bagseed. Two are cali orange bud, and the rest are jock horror and nl/haze mix.
I've begun cloning, and another lesson I've learned is not to listen to all the bigshots out there about cloning. You don't need to buy any special kits to clone. I am having 100% success rate with using the dip n grow solution. I stick them in rockwool in a cup under a cfl. The only thing a kit will help with his humidity. Without a dome, you need to regularly mist the cuttings until they start to grow again.
Attached is a closeup of "Wendy," a california orange bud plant. In about a week I will beging flushing. Anyone object? The first is taken 5-19, the second 5-27.
These plants are grown in soil, using Advanced nutrients three part at 1:1:1 ratios with Big Bud mixed in. Also, bud blood was used during the first week.
