i just went out and bought a 60w halogen light cuz on the back it says it gives off uv rays which i thought was good cuz of the sun. but since i got home i been reading and ppl are saying they are not good because they are too hot. but if i only have one light giving off heat wont it be good. and i thought that the plant is supposed to have heat

Before growers started using HPS and MH lamps halogens were used quite a bit, the main drawback im aware of is the heat and effeciency, I am too young to have used these as HPS was in vogue during my time of growing, so there may be other drawbacks, but people used to make em work. Too much heat can be bad, mid 70s is ideal.

they have been used with a very large distance from the plants, a lot of ventilation and with very poor results compared to todays HPS grows.

You are much better off using a 45W CFL alone - its cheap, takes less electricity, gives more light, can be found in the right spectrum and produces way less heat.

just don't use halogen.
