SoG Grow Room Discussion

im def. on board with the water cooling idea.. i think you could use some type of steel wool or brillo type material to help conduct the heat better. it would reduce the airflow however.. and i dont know how you could get it in bulk you would need.

too difficult to coil the 1/2 inch soft copper (not so soft)
ill try to replace with a 1/4 or 3/8 tomorrow, will see how it goes

good luck SoG.

you know we rooting for ya

and we got our brains. 2 or more brains are better than one.

and you know we love grow talk & grow brainstorming bro :hump:

I think i have finally found my place in the world. In my grow room and here on RIU.

SOG this is a great thread and your room and engineering are top notch.

Your prototype is lookin good. I love how we diy things and they dont work so we scrap em and try the next idea. There is some sort of HIGH that comes along withing designing and building your own controls and components. I love this idea as it could be implemented in so many ways. I cant wait to see if it works im already thinking of the ways it could be used. I wonder if for a sealed room as i have if you could put one of those coils on the inlet side of a cool tube and one on the exit side and continually recirculate the air in the room through the coils and cooltube and thus cool the light and the room without exausting the air out of the room. Very interesting possibilities.
I also love to hear im not the only guy who works on his growroom till the sun comes up. I know this question has been asked and aswered many times but I feel the posters to this thread are reliable experienced vets. I cannot decide where to set my temps. I know the higher temps produce faster growth but you may lose potency. I know there isnt much confirmed data that says higher temps cause a loss of potency but I am weary. I do have controlled co2 which will stay at 1200 to 1500 ppm. My question SOG or any other experienced posters, is what max temp do you recommend. Please keep in mind I have read tons and tons about this and still have not found a consensus. I know 95 max w/ co2, i believe 90 is good and 85 optimal. If using co2 what temps do you guys run at.

Thanks!!!!

oops oh yeah the reason I started writing here is why not just cut some strips of copper sheet metal, put somefolds in it, ya know accordian style, and solder them to the inside of the coils. i know this would be difficult depending on the length of the coil but with some ingenuity im sure you could accomplish it. By soldering you would get a good transfer from the coil to the "fins"

I concur with Droski's comments and congrats on passing the 100 page mark, SoG! Just a great, great thread Bra!

Since you just went past 100 pages, I updated the PDF as I'll continue to do every 50 pages. For all those who d/l'ed the info and for those who want this thread in an easier to read format and for posterity...you can get the latest one here...and it's also in my sig.:peace:

This thread is amazing, just wanted to say nice job sog, mad props.

Thank you and welcome to the thread danksmoker
always consult the guys over at Stinks thread for very reliable environmental and grow information
the panel there is much wider then my thread has at this point
86 is ideal temps, what is your grow medium/system

ahhhh

ill be outfitting my cab soon.... looking for appropriate reservoir (in reference to size) so that it'll fit in my storage closet

I'm working outside the tube
got that spring bender crap from HD,
toke me half an hour to make one circle
it gets stuck so hard it wont slide over, its not feasible over 50ft
your PVC idea sound like a winner, are you talking about something like this?

to replicate the fins,
i was thinking to create a crowded weave, twisted a across the coils
this will act the same way as the fins do, distributing the coolness from the coils across and deflecting the air to go in between the cracks

Yep. Just like that. I thought it would work for you but I didnt know if I described it well enough. You did a good job too SOG.

Very well done, my friend. You are quite the patient perfectionist... you've been contributing build data to this thread for 6 months (it'll be 6 this Sunday).

I'm lovin' the wealth of information & resources, so much that I've saved most of the charts on my hard drive. Some, I already had, and others might serve very helpful in my own LED project: https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/186051-my-lighting-project-will-custom.html

When are you gonna get some plants in this baby? You've spent many thousands so far... what do you anticipate your start date to be? Should we start a countdown? :leaf:

P.S. Subscribed. ;)

thanks for the info SOG. Your coil looks great and I guess the idea is that the twister circulates the air through the tube. It would amost seem like the twister might make a little tornado down the center of the coil/ slash ducting. hopefully it is pushing or pulling air over the coils or you may wanna try making a smaller coil if you could and run it down the conter. Man it be great if you could bake a coil small enough to fit inside of that one.

My set up is a 3'x3'x7' area with 4 1/2' of grow area, 9 bucket fllod and drain with hydroton. 600w cooltube. co2, a/c, sealed, computer / plc controlled perfect grow enviorment, I can monitor and automatically control all aspects of the room. Sorry for goin so in depth but just wanted to answer you question bout the grow medium/setup.

Again thank you for all your helpful information it is great when you find someone who you know you can trust their advice. Thank you for all the hard work you have done on your thread.

Thank you Dank,
center is a problem to coil tighter as the copper kinks
i was thinking to go with a smaller diameter for the center part
but that will be wrong to constrict the flow with a smaller diam at the center
I'm thinking of blocking the other end with a small plug at the center hole only
forcing the airflow to cross through the coiled rings,
heck, i can block the whole center hole if needed

ahhhh yeah you could put a piece of pvc with a cap on both ends down the center of the coil and force the air over the coils i think that would be badass but you would constrict some air flow. but youd be fine depending on the diameter of pipe you use.

going with 12"er on that sucker, plenty air flow
heading to HD to grab a few aluminum welding spikes
ill see show they can help building a net between the pancakes
i also unwarned the coils and redid it with gap in between the coils

ahhhh good thinkin on the gap idea you are a man after my own heart I feel like im hter buildin that baby with ya. You have an engineering mind do you work in the engineering field? Thats funny I just got back from the depot im building a concealing wall for my cabinet/room. they have some pretty nice vinyl accordian style doors. kinda like room dividers. Its a real clean look. You ought to check out the room im buildin i got some pics on my profile page. Its pretty cool stuff mostly diy. The best is the plc and writing the program to control the room. Its some pretty deep thinkin. What type of control do you use? is eveything automated somehow?
