help with spacing

ok i am a new member here and could use a lil help. i have grown in the past in a small dresser type cabinet with a mere 100 watt bulb. i am now wanting to go bigger and have decided to build a new chamber. i was planning on making the chamber out of ply wood and the overall dimensions will 4 foot wide by 8 foot long and 4 foot tall. i want to section it off and make three different chambers one for flowering that will be 4 foot by 5 foot one that will serve as a cloning chamber that will be one foot by four foot and the mother and veg chamber that will be two foot by four foot. i was planning on cutting holes in the floor so the pots will be able to be flush with the floor so i have will have more space for the plants to grow upwards. i want to use a 400 watt hps in the flowering chamber and need to know how many plants i should be able to cram in there. also what is a resonable expectation of what i should be able to harvest per plant with a setup like this?

Surely you can understand that area x light != yield....your yield and amount of plants depend on lots of things...will you fim/top? lst or supercrop? scrog or sog? 12/12 from clone or veg? how long do you want o veg...do you want perpetual or just harvesting lots of big plants at the same time?

If you want reassurance, then your box sounds big enough...get enough light in there, with the right care and nutes you will have some nice smokeables...there are calculators all over this site, as well as countless people asking the same question as you, and real people conversed with them...chances are if you read what they asked and the answers they got you will probably find your own questions answered...

hope i helped a bit...its just too hard to tell you numbers without details..and honestly even if we saw 4 week flowering pics its still only an estimate of yield, mj plants have the ability to grow FAST...one week you might be looking at 2 oz, the next 5 oz...genetics are the key, as well as a low stress life for the plant.

I understand you are new to the forum and you want some help...but think of the people that hav been on the forum for years and get the same questions every day....nobody means any disrespect...and when you are ready to chat a bit feel free to join us in chat...the odd question isnt so bad, but they dont really like planning out peoples grows for them. get to know them, and read tons of journals.

thats not a lot of space. you'll probably want it more than 4 ft tall for flowering, my 2 month old indica is already about 3 ft tall, and still has about 2 months left. yield can vary a lot depending on strain. your putting a 400 watt hps in a 4 ft tall box?...... not gonna work...

i would rather ask a knowledgeable person lol who i can conversate with
Actually, I AM knowledgable n00b. But based on your verbal description I CANNOT tell you how many plants you should be able to cram in there. OR what is a resonable expectation of what you should be able to harvest per plant with a setup like that. I suggest you do your research on the subject in this forum and others. :peace:

ok thank you everyone who has helped i have done some researching and if you are still willing to help i would appreciate it very much. i read up on the sog and that sounds perfect for what i will be doing. i mentioned that i would have a 4'x8'x4' chamber now that i have done some reading on the sog i am seeing that i will have to produce lots of clones to make this work. so i will probably need to split the box in half for flowering and mothers/ cloning. i also read that if doing an ebb and flow system with the sog was an excellent thing to do so i will go in that direction as well. the only thing that is throwing me off now is what size rockwool cubes to use. i see many that say 4 inch and lots that say 6 inch so say i go with the four inch pots thats 64 plants.
i am planning on growing white widow max and want to go from cloning to flowering while skipping the veg phase.
so i still only have a 400 watt light for flowering. is this enough or do i need to make my flowering chamber smaller. i have read that 50 watts a square foot is prime. but the manf of the light says use on no smaller than a 3x3 to a 5x5 area so i was looking at 4x4 because its in the middle of the road. if some one would please show me how to calculate these things i would like to figure estimated harvest amount and consumption of electricity.

i guess what i am looking for is someone to tell me if my system is worth fooling with or should i design something else?
