Seeds havent germinated

Hey guys, first off let me say great site. I’ve smoked weed since I was about 14 (not constant but occasionally) and I have just finished university and I feel I deserved to start a grow.

I have had some seeds in my draw for a good few years. They were still sealed, i didn’t even take them out of the pack when i ordered them. They are new purple power.

I placed 5 seeds in a cup of room temp water for about 4 days and nothing happened (i was assuming a shoot would come through). I decided to hell with the water and just plant them into the soil like nature intended. All 5 of the seeds floated (i remember reading ages ago that good seeds float and bad seeds sink?).
Well it has been a further 3 days or so and I still have nothing out of the soil. They are just sat in the dark in a draw at the moment. Is this correct?

If it is, does it look like these seeds aren’t going to grow? They are about 4 years old.

I’m planning on moving them outside somewhere, but i also fancy growing one as a bonsai - not for yield but for shits and giggles.

Thanks for any advice.
Luckily I still have another 5 seeds, if these ones i have planted don’t sprout i will give the other 5 a go. Hopefully with more success.

put then inbetween some very damp tissue in a warmer place for 12 hours, then a cooler area....then warmer.... i find this can help trigger harder to germ seeds

So do you think my seeds ive planted are dead? I could take them out of the soil and try what you suggested in one last attempt to germinate?
Im half tempted to leave them a couple more days as they could just be a tad slow

For sure try the paper towel method. I don't know how long seeds stay good just sitting in the open but I found some middy beans that were sitting in an ash tray for almost 2 weeks and wanted to see if I get them to germinate. Sure enough I put 5 in the paper towel and set it on top the refrigerator. Not even 2 days later they broke free. Right now they are about 2 inches.

thanks for the reply. i guess i will wait until the morning and see if the ones i have planted finally sprout, if they havent i will move them to the paper towl method.

if your still having trouble germing them try pooping them in a cup of water for a couple of days, this method has never ever failed me.

leave them be. if they are viable they will eventually pop. but its hard to tell with 4 year seeds. the longer they are stored the lower the germination rates.

for the best results put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in half a cup of water, drop ur beans in and place them in a cupboard if the seeds are fresh they will pop overnight, older seeds take a little longer.

yeah that might help. I did mine the old papertowel in a ziplock back. 20 feminized seeds and 1/2 germinated.

ha funny how they call them "zip" locks.......

Newbie I like your profile pic! that is sick

Hey guys, well amazingly i checked them this morning and one of them has sprouted. My question now is do i continue to leave them in the dark in the hope that the rest germinate, or do i put it in the light? I would hope that they should all sprout now if one of them has. Will the little sprout be effected by being left in the dark for another couple days? They soil is nice and moist and the sprout is actually thicker than i thought it would be.

Thanks for any advice
