How do you stop plants stretching

Hi all,

Im using a bubbleponics type system for my first grow. Lighting is 400W HPS. My plants grow so fast in this bubbleponics setup. I cant leave the light to low because i work 10hr\our days and by the time i get home the leaves are touching and burning. Plants got to 4ft rather quickly and they have been in bud now for 3wks. I can really notice the stretchy plants now that the buds are forming.

How much will this effect my yield?

How can i fix it for my next grow?

Will i have to have these in flower for a longer period of time.

Thx

well do u know sex like was it a clone or from seeds. sounds like it could be a male. they tend to grow taller wit more space between nodes. or it could just be a sativa as they get big quick. as far as growing any more usually after first two weeks of flowering vertical growth levels off. hope its not a male bro good luck

bring the light closer to them, they are straining to get closer to the light source which is why they are stretching. Lower the light if at all possible...
Otherwise I suggest just bracing them up and hoping for the best.

Try adding some side lighting. If they are stretching because of genetics, there's nothing you can do about it. Get some cfl's and put them at varying heights along the stem of the plant. It will help the middle and lower buds get nice and juicy!

to control the stretching you can FIM the tops or do some supercropping...my .02 cents :)
Supercropping could definitely help now that Dr. Green mentions it...do some research into it. I've never tried, and it looks pretty violent, but it seems to work for lots of people.

Good luck:leaf:

Thanks all for your advice. I have attached a image. Sorry not the best photo. I put the chicken wire over to try and keep the vertical growth down so i could get the lights closer

I looked at supercropping but can i do this now the plant is into bud. I dont want to stress them and get pollen sacks.

I cant see any pollen sacks so i am presuming it isnt male. If you guys have any advice let me know.

try ScrOG....like you said, just turn it sideways and let it grow horizontally.....should be a thread on screen of green somewhere on this forum.....goodluck!:)

You could just move the lights closer, and install some reflective side panels, or have some hanging lights on the sides of the plants like some daylight cfls, or softwhite for flowering.
