The Hps will out shine the t5s. They say that when you put bith of them togther the hps will cover up the t-5s, it's like you only have hps.

Why would a 250 or 400 watt hps be brighter than 432 watts of the 4-ft,. 8-bulb HOT5's? Also you can mix & match the 3500k and 6500k bulbs in the T5's for better spectrum coverage. The low heat also allows you to put the T5 right on top of the plants.

As I said before, unless the hps is 600 or 1000 watts, the 432 watt (8 x 54 watts each) HOT5's will do better.

When comparing lighting you have to do more than just add up wattage because not all lighting will put off the same amount of light with the same or roughly the same amount of wattage or cover the same amount of area with the same amount of wattage.

I see that. And light penetration weakens with distance. So one of the hps = 10 HOT5's and the T5's can be placed much closer to the plant and offer a broader light spectrum.

So from your information I'd say that the HOT5's are as good or better than the 400 hps because of heat issues and better everyday of the week over the 250 watt hps.

Im usig a 400watt HPS with a carbon filter kit in my cupboard and the temprature is perfect (75 Deg F) but because yours is smaller than mine I would reccomend a 150 or 250 watt to have the best outcome.

Check out my cupboard grow.

Hi I have a simerlar question my cupboard is 180 CM TALL 80CM WIDE AND 50CM DEEP, after taking into account the air ducting, fan and cool-tube at the top and the shelf in which the DWC pots sit I am left with a 95CM TALL X 80CM WIDE X 50CM DEEP grow space I have a 120mm CPU fan with a speed controller sucking air in from a boarded up chimney at the bottom and I have a 5" SYSTEMAIR in-line fan sucking air out and blowing it out (into my room, not outside) through a small can carbon filter at the top, I want to change from CFL/LED to a MH/HPS grow my whole cupboard is covered in diamond MYLAR to avoid hot spots, I only plan on growing 1 or 2 ladies at the most and want to know if I should use a 430w MH/HPS , 400wMH/HPS , or a 250wMH/HPS set-up, I will be using a cool-tube but want to avoid excessive heat (anything over 26oc) and I want to avoid light burn, but I do want dense competition standard buds (even if I have to grow them short due to space) also for eg. if you used a 430w MH/HPS in a cool tube to flower say 6 ladies under, if I down scaled to a 250w in a smaller highly reflective space would a 250w MH/HPS give me the same results flowering just 1 or 2 ladies as the 430w set-up, hope this makes sense to you as I really want to get some amazing MH/HPS results there are many factors, please please help me, if you want or need pics please ask me to post them,as I dont want to take the piss and post stuff on your thread without given permission, If you look in my photo/picture album you ll see the same cupboard housing my LED/CFL grow this will give you an idea on the growing space, although obviously the air extraction system and lighting will be changed to house a cool-tube and which ever MH/HPS system you guys/girls recomend for me I hope any and all answer's you can provide will help others as well as myself many thanks for your time - STELTHY

PS. the ballast will sit outside the grow cupboard, and I also have a co2 injector in the grow cupboard too! - STELTHY

which ever light you use, the first consideration should be ventalation. T5s are great for veg, i use them, but closet will get hot with out venting.
