Carbon filter question

Ok so ive been growing my ladies for quite some time now and im into the 1st week of flowering... at last.

So far ive been growing them in my cupboard with just an oscillating fan and opening the doors occasionally to get some fresh air in - and they have been doing fine.

I know they are gonna start to smell at some point soon and obviously this is of concern to me so im gonna buy myslef a carbon filter kit

I saw this one on ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/100MM-4-FAN-CARBON-FILTER-DUCT-CLIPS-PACKAGE-NEW_W0QQitemZ360149071657QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_HomeGarden_Garden_PlantsSeedsBulbs_JN?hash=item360149071657&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1686|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318

Im just wondering is the filter is to go outside the growroom or if its to stay inside and what way its all to be set up?

I know i need a passive vent at the bottom of the growroom to let air in - im just not sure how it should be set up as its my fist time doing this, help needed thx.

Anyone?...

Does you just mount the fan to the top outside of the cupboard and have that going to the filter susupended from your ceiling or something? Does it have to be suspended lol i dont know guys help me out here.

I guess you can do it either way.
The way I do it is that I keep my carbon filter in the room where my plants are in their last 4 weeks of bloom,
the blower is attached to the filter and the other end blows it through the chimney.

There are a few ways but for yours just mount the entire unit in the grow cabinet assuming its sealed up. Make sure the fan is sucking air through the filetr and not blowing into the filter. This will scrub the air in the cabinet. You can add another outside to clean up and escaped oder the same way.

Ok so something like this>>>

drawing didnt come out too great on the camera but think you will get the idea... one inside bolted to the side of the growroom pulling air through and another one outside for the air to go through befor being expelled into the room?

Is this a common practice or do most folks usually just have the fan mounted on the side of the growroom and pulling air through some foil ducting and then into the filter for it to be expelled outwith the grow room?

Ok so whats the benefit of having the filter inside the growroom as opposed to outside... Plus should i have the filter at the bottom with the fan at the top sucking the air through it or should they be the other way round... i.e fan at bottom and filter ontop?

i dont think theres any difference wether u have it in or out of ur grow room u should have the filter at the top of ur grow room coz hot air rises n filters all the stale air out of it n sucks fresh air thru the vent at the bottom heres a pic to give u sum idea ras:joint:

Thanks for the pics dude...

OK, wow dont know how im gonna fit all that into the top of my grow room as it can only house 5 plants max at the min, its just a stand alone wardrobe and not a room like yours.

I do have a spare closet that i could maybe use in the same way as yours, could get loads of plants in there but id be worried about the heat signature that a whole room would give off as opposed to this small wardrobe i have which is covered with a dark bedsheet to keep the light out when the lights are on.

You want the fan sucking the air out of your cupboard. Filter in cupboard, fan out sucking air filtered through an activated carbon filter. (Like exhaust). But you need fresh air somewhere like you said on the bottom coming in, and generally the carbon filter is on the top sucking all pollen, odor, etc... through the filter and releasing it wherever your duct goes. Mine goes straight out the tent into my room. I have a tent, I don't know what your setup looks like. There's really not an odor issue. My only complaint is the fan is loud and needs to be ran on a timer 5 minutes ever 30 minutes. This is definitely the best way to eliminate odor. Look at my tent. I got my filter/inline fan combo on ebay as well for 159 USD from HTGSupply.com, (also has ebay listings sometimes cheaper than the site) Hope this helps.

Heres my setup, as you can see - not a lot of room in there, what do you guys think i should do - keep it inside or mount it on the outside of the growroom?

i reckon the best way to do it is like 303 has it with the filter on the inside n the fan on the outside:joint:

What temp are you running in there? what is the wattage of your light? I'd cut a 4" hole at the top of that cabinet and drop ducting inside, and attach a carbon filter and mount it inside the tent. and have the fan outside, on the top perhaps? I'd do exactly what I did on my tent. The only problem is you need fresh air to be pumped in from the bottom of the cabinet and stale hot stinky air pumped out (carbon filter) from the top (heat rises). This will improve your temperatures dramatically, and your plants will love you.

Whats going on with the cabinet next to the one your growing in? If you can use it, you got a veg and flowering area, and you can share ducting thru the 2 from the filter and fan, for its a small area. You need to figure out how to get fresh air in there.

Hehe the one next to it is already mylared and blacked out on the doors... that is my plan - one for vegging and one for flowering.

But you are right there is not temp control or proper ventilation at the moment and i know i need to get that sorted... my girls have done ok so far with just the osciallating fan in there and the doors opened occasionally.

So you reckon drop some tubing down from the top of the growroom into a carbon filter mounted inside the growroom with the fan sitting ontop of the growroom and sucking air out?

On yeah the light is a 150w red spectrum cfl... runs a bit hotter than the blue spectrumed one.

Also 303 it looks like your carbn filter doesnt have abit for the air to come in through in your pics?... was that a steel cover on the end, is it supposed to come off? how is the air meant to get through - cheers.

The box fan on the side of the tent pushes a good amount of fresh air in at the bottom, I duct taped it so all the air is being placed inside. My temperature is a constant 77.8, when the filter goes on it drops to anywhere between 74.4-75.2ish. I'm unsure what you mean by the steal cover? The fan is perfect diameter on one of the port holes, tent is very sturdy and can hold a about 50lbs on top. Then I have ducting attached coming in side attached to the filter. I don't know if this answers your q? Bottom line if I were you I'd cut a couple 4"diameter for venting, one for air in one for air out. Looks like it wouldn't be difficult. One on the bottom one on the top. I'd cut in the one your not using right now low to the ground, run ducting thru both of them, you can use one fan to cool both rooms. I think they sell Y fittings for ducting to attach to so you can run for both rooms to blow fresh air in, then the same at the top just reverse the fan so its sucking the hot air out the top. So you need 2 fans 1 carbon filter, and 2 8ft ducting, duct tape. About 350 US Dollars, and you'll have a legit setup. HTGSupply.com I recommend highly.

Now i see why they have these tents - i never understood them in the 1st place but i do now...

Im gonna have to look into it - some good ideas tho thx.

My setups are different as I run co2 enrichment so I do not vent out of the tent as that would defeat the whole co2 injection. The setups showing the filter inside and blowing the air out are not for co2 setups. I place my fan attached right to the can filter and then hang one inside my grow tents up high. This allows all the air in the tent to be scrubbed keeping the smells down and then the co2 that is in the air just passes back through the filter. If I ran the line out of the tent there goes all my co2 out the room. I also since I have multiple tents keep a larger unit outside the tents filtering the areas outside air to catch any extra smell as there is some to be dealt with so I clean it up by having another unit just setup cleaning the area air.Heres some old pics of one of the tents when I was setting it up. You can see I have kool tubes that have a fan on each end one brings cool air in one is sucking the air out at the other end. In picture 2 thats where I hang my scrubber unit inside. Then you can kinda see what Im saying
