New member, with a couple of questions!

Hello, new on this board!

I'm pretty new to all this growing stuff. However I started up some White Widows, and later some Skunk #1's in my akvarium a couple of months back. Just trying to get the hang of it, learning to read the grow patterns & environment requirements etc.

I've had my up's n downs, in fact the first 10 days 8 plants died due to overfertilized grow medium. I made the mistake of listening to a gardner, instead of asking advice from real bud grow veterans. Big mistake!

Anyways, It's time to step up and expand my grow room.

As for now my 2 surviving widows have been vegging for approx 2 months, and my 4 Skunk #1's for 1 month, under 2x 30w light bulbs.

A couple of weeks ago one of the ladies got too tall, and I had to elevate the roof. This worked out for a week, till it collapsed, resulting in a burned off top crop.

This is how beautiful my Widow looked 2 weeks ago

And now:

A shot of my much better of Widow (a little bit burned on a couple of leaves, nothing major though) and her friends in the background, two happy 3½ week old Skunk #1's

My first question is, what should I do about the burned off top, should i cut it off? I've heard that it's pretty common to do in order to get better light conditions for the lower branched buds anyways..?

2nd question; how many watt HPS would you suggest for a Grow tent this size:

2400 L X 1200 B X 2000 H mm

Would one 600w with a big Adjust-A-Wing Avenger reflector be sufficient? I'm not so hooked on the idea of having 2 HPS burning at the same time in 1 tent :-?

My plan is to first do a couple of SCROGS, and get some huge yields, so I don't have to worry about buying expensive skunk from the street the next couple of years. After that I will start experiment with smaller grows with different strains so I can build up an archive of different tasty buds :-P

I also plan to make hemp oil in the future, as I heard so much about it's health benefit's and I'm a bit of a health & nutrition freak IRL :)

Hope somebody can answer my questions, looking forward to learn and share experiences on this board!

Top it... cut stem straight across about 1/4" above 3rd, 4th node.. this will give you two tops and shorten the plant... Luck...

i recon one 600w hps will be fine mate. yeh, you should cut it off, then u can get two colas. its called topping, so u get more buds.

Cut straight, do you mean a perfect horizontal cut? Not a 45 degree (like with cloning) but 180?

In theory, does it matter at which node I cut the stem? I mean at the top most node, a lot of the plant is burned off, so perhaps it would be best to cut it off 2 nodes from the top?

When you upload a picture click on it so that it opens it up in a different window. Copy the link to the picture that is now blown up in it's own window and put it between

^
Right there

You can also just right click on the picture and just "copy link location" and paste it between
Right between the ][

Thanks mate.

Mm, in a SCROG with 600w HPS, how much do you reckon I could yield with a heavy yielder, like i.e. Big Bud, NL etc? I want to take advantage of the whole tent naturally.

I aim to fit at least 25, 6.5 liter pots underneath the light!

Also I plan to use a cooltube so I can move the hps closer to the plants and keep temperature down.

legend! well, with scrog, most plants only yeild round 1/2oz, cos theyre so small, but if uv got 25 thats 12.5 oz! if u left the clones to veg a little before you flower, rather than just take the clones and flower, u could get another few more ozs.

Anywhere after the 3rd node from bottom(6"up approx)... and yes straight across.. and don't freak, but it may bleed red liquid... that freaks out some when that happens..
