Hops crossed with cannabis?

I've never run into this so I'm going to ask.

Has anyone, particularly those of you who are advanced growers, ever tried to cross pollinate a Hops plant with a cannabis plant? I've heard they're related. If they are related, wouldn't they have the probability to come out like a giant cannabis flower but look like a Hops Plant?

Anyone?

hmm maybe you could ferment it and make beer and get drunk/high
unlikely to be possible unless you have some sort of genetic engineering degree...

My sister had planted zucchini squash and pumpkins next to each other in her garden for 5 years and this year they cross pollinated and she got squakins. They were long like zucchini squash but they were orange and had the indentations like a pumpkin and they had a kind of a woody skin like pumpkin.

What did they taste like? You'd need to invent a whole range of new recipes for them.

There could be one huge advantage to such hopsXcannabis plant: it would be legal!!!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. . . it would be legal, until the government caught onto it and made laws against it. More BIG government - yeah!

The squakins mainly tasted like any other gourd. Kind of like a winter squash.

Surely the big brains in seed banks already thought of that. Soon they will probably be able to transfer the DNA sequence responsible for THC-production in a completely unrelated plant or animal and we will be able to grow huge pumpkins with 30%+ THC content or even have our dog crap high quality hash.

But the government will pass a law that will forbid THC-related DNA sequences and will send out cops with DNA scanners to probe our dogs droppings and instantly determine our addresses and DNAs.

I remember the first grow book I ever bought in about 1970 had a chapter showing how to cross pot and hops. The idea/hope is/was that the veg would be hops, which is kinda vine-like, while the flowerz would be ganga.

One of the major requirements of a species is that it CANNOT breed with other species. The very few that have this ability can only do so with VERY similar species and are sterile. Years of work in a professional lab might find a way to cross the two but other than that I'd say its not gonna happen...

^ You are probably right but you never know. Somehow humanity manages to ignore the advantages of growing the hemp plant for fiber, food and paper for example. (Most people just don't know about it and when we tell them they interpret it as a political tool to legalize a drug.)

It is a pity you cannot find that book. If you remember the title or the author, I'd look for it.

Well, it was green and in paperback, though the pages were probably 6"X9".
That was a long time ago, especially for a stoner!

Lemme look around a little.

I don't know if dude was lying but he was a botanist and crossed a hops plant with a cannabis plant and it grew like a vine and one plant produced pounds of seedless good smoke.

I was in possesion of a book in the early 80's that gave detailed instructions on grafting a hops plant to a marijuana stalk. The result,a 20 ft long plant containing THC.Never tried it though.I dont like beer so i saw no reason.Actually the truth be known im allergic to alcohol, i break out in handcuffs.

I'll explain it here: It goes Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species (King Phillip Cried, O For Goodness Sakes it an easy way to remember it). Basically, you can only bred within genus, but that will make it sterile. Family is too high up the evolutionary ladder to be able to breed it with each other. For example, some of you may have heard of a zorse. It is a zebra and a horse. The scientific name for a horse is Equus ferus caballus (Genus, species, sub.sp). A zebra is Equus Hippotigris. Since they are both in the genus they can be bred, but the offspring will be sterile. A mule is a cross between a horse and donkey. A donkey's name is E. africanus asinus, therefore since its in Equus, they can be bred, but again, the offspring will be sterile. Hops is in the genus Humulus, Marijuana is in the genus Cannabis. Can't be bred. But interesting thought.

Yeah, I'd say this pretty much kills the idea.

This is also proof that here at RIU we have some people that DO have brains even though they smoke pot.

+ REP for you man!

Did anyone read this post i made? The US army scientists had a huge success with grafting hops to marijuana stems.I beleive they couldn't find a plausible use for it other than beer containing D9thc.:weed:

cant say its impossible.. didnt yall learn about the pedigree chart in like 7th grade. that guy charts characteristics of the plants he wanted like dark green would be "A" and light green would be "a". and you put them in the 4 section square. and you can cros plants mathmaticaly, before you do it physically... shit it takes a long time to get the plants growing exactly how you want. but ya cant say its impossible.. Pe@ce..
