am I hearing correctly when I am hearing that RIU is opposed to its members having the freedom to roam the internet as they wish, become part of whatever internet communities we wish, or engaging in discussions/forums that are not of this particular site/community but still of relative topic. I.E. using a similar site as RIU?

This is disturbing.... some one please clarify what I am hearing....

Not to my knowledge! I go to other sites regularly, I would hope they wouldn't ban me for it! I would think not....but, who knows.

Maybe its some crazy conspiracy that RIU is apart of? Are they trying to build some type of pot growers army to overthrow every other site on the internet thats like this one???!! crazy bastards

in forums on other sites maybe similar to this one people are saying:

"on RIU you'll get banned if they find out your on this site."
"RIU is full of uneccesary bans."
"RIU won't let you post about other sites like this, if you do, they will ban you."

I don't want people saying things like this if its not true. If it is true, than I am very disappointed. If its not true, I can correct them....

well generally you shouldn't be posting links and directing users to other forums. I think its in the rules somewhere.

I think many forums do have rules against posting the same thing on multiple forums, saying that it just spams up search engines with the same shit etc... could this be related?

This makes perfect sense, but is not what they are saying. They are saying RIU will ban you if they find out your even using any other similar site.

No, they just don't want you posting links and telling other folks to come to another site instead. It's understandable that they don't want folks leaving to go to other sites permanently...elites pay to be here, but everyone else only generates revenue for the site if they click ads...the more people you have, the more ads clicked.

I can totally respect that. I don't want people to leave RIU, I do love it here (though I wish it would stop running slow/crashing).

Im gunna give you some respect Stoney. You could have gotten all upset that there was even the notion that some negativity had been expressed about this site on this site, or even its "public" members, and negative repped me, told me to leave RIU, that I wasn't wanted here, that I was actually advertising for other sites, etc. But you didn't. You replied with accurate information, your were respectful and courtious about it. and that is awesome.

You have no idea the horrible treatment I received in a similar conversation on some other website, they did all those things above. Today in fact. And to be honest I wasn't even promoting RIU or anything, I was just explaining the applicable laws to this kind of situation....

Well, thanks man, and some rep back atcha. I hope nobody thinks I'm mean ALL the time, though I have been known to tell someone off before. I'm sorry to hear about your treatment on the other site. I don't get bitchy without a reason, it's not like I randomly pick on people. If it's the site I'm thinking of, they have a grudge against the admins and mods here. Riu isn't perfect, but it's the only forum I visit and chat on.Yes, I have memberships at a few other forums, but that's mostly to promote my petition.
I really like this place. Yes, there can be assholes on here, and some folks do have bad days even though they're good people.But overall,I'd say Riu is a positive experience.

I was just gonna post a thread asking if anyone knew of any other good forums out there...I'm glad I didn't....lol Anyways, I was checking out another forum a few weeks ago and I found a really good journal, but I forgot to add to my favorites and my history got erased. Can anyone PM me with some links to some other active message boards?? Hopefully I'll get lucky and find it this way...
