Sounds to me like it will work in either. If you are only going to get 1 ballast, then get one that can do both MH and HPS. You see them on eBay all the time, and I am sure the local hydro shop will have some.

I know the bulb you have, and its need to be ran with a MH ballast. This is a MH to HPS conversion bulb. What ever comes first in the conversion ( such as MH to HPS or HPS to MH ) is the ballast that must be used to run that bulb. ( Hope that makes sense )

does this sound right?

"Have a metal halide system, but want sodium light? Add versatility to your existing system with this Hortilux 360-Watt Ultra Ace HPS Conversion Lamp. This HID lamp essentially converts a 400-watt halide system to a 360-watt sodium. Lamp can be operated horizontally or vertically and emits 45,000 initial lumens."

from ur link, Ballast Required: 400 Watt Metal Halide

Yes you could get a switchable ballast for using either MH or HPS bulbs. The new electronic ones know what kind of bulb is in the socket and adjust the the current. I have a Nextgen C.A.P 400w/600w MH, or HPS bulb types. This is great cause you are able to have a wide variety of blubs as well. 5 year warrenty can't beat that!

sounds nice... i was wanting a ballast that will run from my 360 watt.. up to 600.. and be able to switch from MH and HPS.. may i ask what u paid for your ballast? or is that rude and nosey?

also... do u think the coversion bulb i have is better or worse then a straight up HPS bulb? thanks for ur support!

I got mine for 289 which is a good price for what it does. You get what you pay for when it comes to lights and ballasts. I have a blue eye hortilux 400w bulb for my veg. When you look at lumens they are about the same maybe 8-10k less then a true ballast bulb combo. Always try to think ahead when you are buying stuff for your grow like this ballast would be all you need for 1 grow space. Shop around check local hydro shops becasue they have deals that are not advertise in catalogs!

Hope that helps some
