Will I break my pyrex bake a round if i jimmy my AC vent to my hood?? Heat + Cold = bad news?
hmm you're right about the heat and cold thing with glass. Just try pouring hot water on some frozen glass and see what happens. I doubt that the cool air coming out of you ac unit would be cold enough to cause enough of a temperature shift to break the cool tube though. Plus aren't those bake-a-rounds pretty thick?what's the problem? Go for it.
That's what im saying... Sure would be nice to block the moisture somehow and let my babies get as close as they want to the HID.hmm you're right about the heat and cold thing with glass. Test it before you put it into full use though. Also i think i would be more worried about the moisture in that cool tube effecting your light some how. Because doesn't the air coming out of an ac unit have a reasonable amount of moisture in it? Moisture + Electricity = BAD! I could be wrong, please tell if i am. If i am why do ac units drip water and have drainage nozzles and what not, i've always wondered about that?
Well with my cool tube its pretty damn cold to the touch, so my plants are right up on the glass/bulb. Maybe you should look into better extraction from your cool tube rather than plumbing the ac unit to it. Though i am using only a 150 watt hps. I couldn't imagine trying to cool something much larger. The fan i would need to get the same results would probably be huge. That's what im saying... See look nothing to worry about. Do a quick search on whether or not ac unit outputs have a significant amount of moisture in it. If not.... why haven't you done it alreadyyea, hot + cold = bad, BUT its pyrex glass. It has great capicity to heat and cool rapidly like when you take a pyrex glass pan outta the 550 degree broiler/oven and lay on you counter at 60 degrees air temp. Thats a massive temp diff, about 500 degrees, into the cool air and they never break. If your temps are 200 degrees and your venting 40 degree air onto it, its still not gunna shatter. Much less of a temp diff than the oven scenario. Also remember the Pyrex cooltubes were originally made for bread baking.
Thanks for the input, how i thought they worked was in the same way that a cpu finned thermal take works? I also thought the water was a by product of the condensation of water on the metal finns do to the air's rapid cooling as you stated. Where's your HVAC specialist when you need one?!Well, perhaps the water is a side effect of lowering the air temp thus less water can be held but the air and thus you get water as the air cools... I think lol

Air conditioners help clean your home's air as well. Most indoor units have filters that catch dust, pollen, mold spores and other allergens as well as smoke and everyday dirt found in the air. Most air conditioners also function as dehumidifiers. They take excess water from the air and use it to help cool the unit before getting rid of the water through a hose to the outside. Other units use the condensed moisture to improve efficiency by routing the cooled water back into the system to be reused.
good thinking, i still recommend testing before full use.So it has been deemed safe by the rollitup crew? Or still under trial and error? I'm going to wait for more people to view thread before i go breaking shit. lol
