Root Question

Are there any good ways to keep the root from coming out of the drainage holes in a pot with soil. The first time about 4-5 weeks in the root started coming out the bottom and this was a 5 gallon or more pot, this time i started it out in a 20 oz cup now 2 weeks it started to creep out the bottom. So today I transplanted and will see if it survives lol... but i am worried that before its done the root will find the couple of smaller holes in a different pot. /any good ways of preventing this

well i get that but if its in a 5 gal pot now .. is there anything i can do to prevent it from happening again like last time? cause i doubt it should need a bigger pot than that

It doesn't hurt it, it just won't grow any bigger. It basically is just a symptom that's indicating it's rootbound. You can leave it and it won't die, but it won't grow too much bigger either

but then wouldnt i have to worry about the root getting hurt or light burn from being outside the pot

Basically this is what happens: The roots will grow out at first letting you know that they need a bigger pot. If you don't do anything, the roots that are poking out will start to dry out and shrivel up and die (but not the whole root, just the part that is sticking out). The roots that are in the pot will continue to live and be fine. I've grown mini plants in 3 gallon buckets. No problems whatsoever.

Ahhh i see, thank you .. i woke up this morning and thats when the root had popped out but i had to go to work so i was like ill take care of it when i get back..Then when i got back the root looked like it was starting to thin... so that totally makes sense now +repkiss-ass

P.S & FYI . I would change it from the 20oz cup to something bigger, at least a 2 or 3 gallon bucket, if you haven't yet.

i would have taken a pop can cut it up, made it into a screen and taped it to the pot, still letting water drain off. but thats my redneck method

well my first ever grow bagseed last year i did everything by the book from germinating in water into a jiffy pellet into a 5 gallon countainer the thing was beautiful til it told me it was a man lol.... this second time i was so anxious after getting some nice fem seeds i wanted to start asap but didnt have the bigger pot cleaned and ready so i threw it in a 20 oz in case i messed it up so i wouldnt waste all that soil again. which is why i asked the question this time when it happened so quickly ... I never realized how fast those roots can grow.. crazy
