I bought a metal cabinet similar to picture # 1

I plan on growing Bubba Kush and Master Kush Scrog Style!

The useable are within the cabinet after I insulate is 35" Wide x 56" Tall x 15 1/4 Deep.

I plan on attaching a Rubbermaid to the top and insulate the shit out of it. I plan on putting all the electrical components in it. [FAN, BALLAST, 12 VOLT CONVERTER, ETC.]

I designed my cabinet using Google SketchUp. Its a free, easy to use 3D program for mac and pc. I can post my project file for anyone to explore if their interested. For now I'll post some screenshots.

I plan on splitting the cab 2/3 for the scrog / flower area. And the bottom third for the moms, clones, and to start the vegging process.

The bottom area is going to be all fluro. I currently have a NewWave 2 foot 4 bulb T5 that kicks ass -->

I want to utilize these for the moms. There is an additional 12 inches to the right side where I want to start the clones and get the plants started before moving them up to veg and fill in the screen. I plan on using CF bulbs to fill areas for the clone & pre-veg areas.

The bonus of the Gavita is that I wouldn't have to put in a reflector. I heard they work wonders with CoolTubes!

The filter and fan... I Have had a few design ideas. I need some help here too.

Which one is more appropriate for my cab?

Another big ventilation question I have is if its OK to vent hot air out a fan like this?

I have a couple of other ideas for venting if thats an issue.

I plan on sealing up the top area so its separated from the 24/7 light below.

I also need some help figuring the proper way to vent the cab from the bottom and through the middle shelf properly.

I guess the most important question I have is if the vent system I have designed is going to work? The hot air is going to flow out through the fan. I've seen systems setup like this but with squirrel cage centrifugal fans.

I'm no expert, so I'm looking for any advice.

you know, i have sort of the same setup...i have a 3x3x3' area for flowering, with a 400W HPS in there, i planned on building a clonebox as well/veg area, with a 50gal rubbermaid container, but im not sure what lights i wanna use, either 250W of CFL or 400W of cFL, i as well am planning on figuring out how to cool it all, so yes, it would be much help...good luck bro

First off, have you ever built a cab before? If this is your first, you are probably biting off a little bit more than you can chew, in my opinion. If not, it's still kinda a big job. Do you have any building/construction skills or experience?

I'm not trying to discourage you, just making sure you know what you are getting into before you buy all the materials.

In addition to this, because you bought a METAL cabinet and not a WOODEN one, you will need special tools for that. Expensive tools. If you want to spend hours on end trying to cut holes in the metal cab, go for it with a saw. If not, you'll need a plasma cutter. Good luck there, those things are expensive, either to buy or rent. So heads up there.

In my opinion you have too much lighting for your mothers. I think you are overcomplecating things. You would do much better with just the top t4 lighting, skip the side lighting.

As far as your exhaust (which I think is the reason why you are starting this thread) I don't know if either one of those fans is good enough to exhaust the ENTIRE cabinet. I"ve never had experience with that, so I don't know if I can help you.

But I can say that I wouldn't feel comfortable putting all of those electronics in a plastic tupperware container. I think you are just asking for it to melt, but that's just me.

Your sketch was good, but you have alot of bends, alot of restrictions, and a filter on top of that, so I'm not sure if the fan would be able to handle that. Each 90 degree bend increases the static pressure that the fan needs to overcome, reducing the CFM that it can pull. That's not even saying if you physically CAN fit those 90 degree bends in there. The rigid ones kinda take up some space.

But there really isn't a "manual" for building these things. It's really just a trial and error type thing, at least for most of us.

You've got some good ideas, Redeye. Your project would work a little better if you could get a 2nd cabinet to split out veg & grow. If you get a chance, take a look at the two cabinet system Full Metal Jacket built. The best I've seen, especially for stealth. And it might give you some ideas on how to go forward with your project. Hey, can you post your project files? I have Google sketch and I'd love to see you files in it...thanks!

FMJ's cab is a work of art. Truly. If you havn't seen it, look it up.

It's also massively complicated. I don't know how he came to that design. I never would have gotten there, but it works for him, so rock on FMJ.
