Bubbleponics and Nutes Question

Hello - my first posting, hope I am doing this right. I have recently made the conversion from soil to a bubbleponics system with no drip, just the airstones. I believe this is also considered a Deep Water Culture type system. I have read that the nutrients should be at about 1/3 that of normal hydro systems. Is this the case?

I am trying to keep the ph to about 6, but I notice it creeps up in time and I have been adding ph down right into the tub that the root system is in - about 1/4 tsp increments. Is this harmful to the roots or do I need to change out all of the nutrient solution. Haulin' all that water aint that fun :(

Thank you in advance...

are you trying to get a cutting to root? or are you just growing the soil in an areoponics* device?

Nah dude just fix the solution with pH down...as far as the feeding goes u can start with 1/3 of the dosage, this will prevent over feeding and eventually burning ur plants....as the plants grow bigger so should the dosage increaseso lets say say that u start off at 1/3 after the 3rd week u can go 1/2, then u start flowering (with flower nutes obviously) at 1/2 increasing it to 3/4 halfway through the flower and end it full blast (3 weeks before harvest)...notice that each strain has its own likes and dislikes so keep ur eyes on the plants and check for plants reactions...also consider to flush the bubbler every 10 days or so and to top it in between....whenever u top the solution u should ALLWAYS check the pH and the ppm and correct it with nutes or pH UP or pH DOWN...meanwhile read, read, read....Cannabis cultivation isn´t hard u just need to be aware of the plants needs...Peace

I used to grow in soil outside, now I have set up an indoor room for the first time and am trying this bubbleponics system. I already have the clones in rockwool cubes, grow rocks, net pots in the system for about 3 weeks now. At first I did not see roots on a couple, but now every single one of my clones have taken and are rooting! They are about 6 - 8" tall now - doing well. I am keeping one of my clones in soil to keep as the new mother. My original mother (in soil) is blooming beutifully completely filling out my bloom cabinet which is basically a light proofed metal office cabinet about 3' X 2' X 6" high. At first I thought the plant would get too close to the light, but vertical growth seemed to stop and it is just budding now - I think I got lucky. Inside the cabinet is (1) 400W hps, and I had to add a lot of fan exhausting to keep the heat down. I have 1 inline fan pulling air from another room and into the cabinet, and I have an inline fan pulling air from the cabinet to outside. When I harvest the original mother, I plan on putting my bubbleponics system in the cabinet, and continue this grow / bloom / harvest cycle...

Yes studying this craft has been my obsesion for the last few months now. I think my girlfriend is leaving me soon. lol.

So even though the roots are just sitting in the nutrient with bubbles, I can work up to full strength? I thought with a bubbleponics sytems you work up to 1/3 strength?

I have been keeping an accurate log of my PPMs, PHs, nute changes, etc.... I got some grow / micro / bloom nutes and the bottles tell me how much to add per gallon of the grow and bloom, but is not clear how much micro to add to the grow, or bloom. Should I just add equal amounts and just keep an eye on the PPM?

If you have the stealthhydro bubbleponics system, and use thier nutrient mix, you should not have a ph problem. When the plants are under 4 or 5 inches tall, just add half one day and half the next. Every 7 days, drain and replace the water and nutrients. When they are 8 inches tall, then you can add 100% every 7 days. Daily replace 1/2 gallon water with 1/2 teaspoon of nutrients. At about 10 to 12 inches tall, they will drink or use 3/4 gallon a day, so replace that 3/4 gallon daily with water and half a teasoon of nutes. Fresh clean water helps lower the Ph too. I finally learned how to avoid the ph up and ph down game by using and replacing clean water with new nute mix often.

Whether you are using the GROW nutes, or the BLOOM mutes, you use the same amount of the MICRO mix.

Nice pics Roseman!
It has been a while since my original post and I am now well into bloom stage. I got a continuous harvest system from larry and mistys sales on ebay. Looks to be similar to yours. No drippers just airstones. I am using the General Hydroponics Nutes - grow, micro, bloom and man they took off, and they are a good 4 ft now. Really too crowded since I have a six site system. The girls were browning at the tips, so I cut down to half the recommended amount on the nute bottle, and they are better now. I like the system a lot, and really cannot believe how fast they grow, but It's a lot of work changing the nutes. The bitch is when you take the lid off, with all that crop on the top - where do you put it? And they are floppin' all over the place! I ended up buying more storage containers to put them in while cleaning and changing the tub. I get my girlfriend to hold them so they don't fall over.
I actually just go a microgarden ebb and flow that i am trying out - currently vegging. I'll keep you informed...

I also use General Hydroponics Flora Series nutes. This link might help you figure out how much nutes to use. Flora Nutrient Weekly Feeding Program - Greentrees Hydroponics

I am experimenting with a cheap DWC system that i put together using household items. As soon as she sprouted, i ut her in the DWC system and started the nutes off at 2.5mL Gro, 2.5mL Micro, 2.5mL Bloom, and 10mL Diamond Nectar per gallon of water with no problems. It is important that when you are mixing up these nutes you add the Micro first.

Thanks for the link. I was originally going with the amounts recomended on the bottle, but had leaf burning issues so now I am going with 1/2 the recomended amounts, and keeping a PPM of about 800 - 900. I think this is because with this system I have 6 huge plants with the roots sitting in only about 6 gallons of water. The reservoir is filled with a tangled mess of roots. I am thinking next time I will go with like 3 plants, so they are not competeing so much with each other. So you only have 1 plant in your DWC system? How many gallons of water does yours hold?

My plant is in a 1.5 - 2.0 gallon bucket (not exactly sure) With the net pot in the lid, 1 gallon of water(with nutes) brings me to the proper level.

you add the Micro first.

Why is that?
Thanks

this is a neat article i came across on another thread. you should be able to compare a few of the pictures to what youre describing, and hopefully it can answer a few questions for you. good luck!:joint:

There is a bit of good advice here, however dumping the ph up or down or nutes for that matter into the tank is not recommended. Get a small cup or vial and take fresh water or water from your resivour and mix the ph up/down or nutes in before you dump it in the tank. This will make sure the crystals fully diluted. Ph down and chemical nutes could cause consentrations and could burn roots (I have made this mistake). If you have bubble stones the air bubbles should mix it well and you could put the powdered solutions in the res tank but I still recommend dilutiing them in a little water first. If your using liquid formulas then straight into the tank is fine. Then let the system be for 30 min, (I do 1 hour) and check the ph again. Adjust accordingly.

yeah, even with liquid ph up/down you should dilute it into water, i find the best time to adjust ph is when your low on water. lets say i have 10 gallons in the res at ph.6 and i want it at 5.5 and it holds 20 gallons, fill it with water at ph 5 and boom your set.

as for transplanting out of soil into hydro, you would need to get every last bit of soil off of that poor plant, you might be able to do it if you have plants to spare, however me even saying this might anger some people, just start some clones in rockwool.
