hey what up people. first off i'll give you the specs of my grow room so far(no pics sorry).
First my flowering area is 3x8 with two 400wt hps lamps.
Second my veg cabinet is 4x3x6 with one 400wt metal.
now my problem is that i want to keep some mothers , but if i keep them under that blue light they just keep growing, but i dont have any where else to put them. so what i wanted to do is build another cabinet about 3x2x5, for about three moms,
but i dont want to get a HID light that is so strong that it promotes vigorous but has just enough power to keep it somewhat growing enough to get clones off of.
so what kind of wattage do you guys recommend?
what type of lighting do you recommend;hid, floros, etc.

i would go to home depot and buy a t5 floresent for like 20 bucks.Always worked good for me.If you wanna spend the cash you can get a tech light and they work awesome.I do alot of cuttings so i keep my mothers under a 400watt mh now

A strong light source makes for a strong mother plant. You don't really need a lot of light, but you don't want it so weak that they stretch uncontrollably. What you want to focus on is training. That includes pruning, super-cropping, and tying off.

I would get like 4 x 30w CFLs. One in the middle of the 3 mums, and 3 more on the outside of each plant. That way, you have each mum covered on 2 sides.

you know i hadn't thought about that. cause a weak light will cause them to try to get as close as possible to the light .
ok so about how much (ballpark)would i be looking at as far as cost for the cfl's and sockets

so in essence what your saying is even though you are using a 400wt, you take enough cuttings to keep the growth under control.
well what i'm doing is some what of a perpetual type thing every six weeks, and i can only take like 10-12 plants to flower every six weeks(space limitations). so actually i only take 10-12 cuttings at a time. right now i have 22 plants flowering,11 in 1 gal pots vegging(they go out next week), 11 in dixie cups vegging(fresh out of the clone cab,to be transplanted to 1gal pots next week), and 12 clones in my cabinet. but anyway i got off topic a bit. i guess what i was getting at is i dont think i would be able to use the 400wt, because i only take 10-12 cuttings from three plants every six weeks, and i dont think that would be enough cuttings to keep them from growing out of control. you think?

do you have problems with your plants strecthing? or are the cfl's cool enough where as you can keep them as close to the plants as possible?

I just cut the cord off a fan and attached the wires to a $2 Lowes lamp socket. Nothing fancy. It's alternating current so you can't really mess up.
