my ph is showing yellow (like piss).. i guess that's about ph 6~

i have 10 gal res and general hydro brand ph down. how much do i add per gal?

the instructions say "use only to lower ph of nutrient solution and fertilizers" can i still use it for plain water? my tank has no nutes yet (plants are still small).

From what I understand you want your PH to be from about 5.8 - 6. If you are cloning or starting from seed PH of 6 should be fine. With that, you dont want to add any PH down right now. If you have your PH too low or too high the plant will not get the nutrients it needs and will feed off of its existing leaves.

If this is your "water tank" for seeds and clones, I would just adjust the PH to 5.8 - 6 and leave it alone. If this is your vegging/floweing tank you want to adjust PH AFTER you add nutes.

Good luck.

pH down.. if you have a scale my pH down says .2 grams per 3 gallons will drop your pH down by .1, your going to have to read you pH down box it came in or look right on the container its in

thanks, but can i add the ph down to plain water in my growing tank, say my plain water had a ph of 7 or is this ph down only for adjusting nutes ph?

The PH down/up is for adjusting PH of the water weather there are nutes in it or not.

Also, I dont follow the instructions, I follow the meter. You want to take and test a sample after every adjustment.

you can buy a PH test kit which has the color chart, but a PH and PPM meter is the best way to check. as for amount per gal, you just add a little at a time till you get to the desired PH. I generaly add 1 cap full of down to a 35 gal res to reduce PH by about .4 if your doing one gal you could use a dopper and try 1/2 a dropper amount at a time. the biggest problem is all water is not the same. it can have much different PH depending on where it comes from. mine comes from a well and runs about 6.8 my buddies comes from a well and comes out at over 7.
