have a 6 pack hydro system going, bottom leaves of the plants have suddenly appeared to die. They are very very dry and crumble to the touch. Also have some strange white/yellow streaking that has appeared on a few of the plants. My PH was FUBAR yesterday (shot up to 8.1 for some reason) and I did a water change. I change the water at least once a week. Nutrient mix is pretty tame...600 watt light was about 12 inches from the tops of the plants...PH is good today 5.7, Dont know what other details to add, other than I am a beginner, this is my first time growing. I hope I added all the details you guys need to tell me what might be happening.

kwik tip, make sure when doing water works you keep the water under 75F, 65-68 is best, as for PH it will rise everyday, for instance, your nutrient solution is at 5.5 when you make your mix when changing it out, the next day it will probably be up to 6.5 and 7.5 the day after that, thats how it goes for me, and if you dont keep an eye out for it you will get these issues, make sure you have plenty of PH down at all times your gonna have to keep readjusting, i dont know what kind of testing methods you are using, if you dont have one cus they are costly, get a reliable PH meter, one can be had for less that $40 on ebay from a good company...also get a PPM meter from ebay a good TDS meter for around $25

OK, I have been told its a magnesium deficiency, I have a good PH meter, what do I need a PPM meter and a TDS meter to measure?
