The set-up.. Plants w/pics and questions.

Hi guys! I'm new here. Thanks to everyone who gave me adice before I set this first part up. I didn't get any response on my last post so thank you to everone who helped me before I got started. Without this site and you I could never have gotten this far. Figured I'd share my current set-up with you guys along with a few questions some of you pros may be able to answer.

I just built this box. This is going to be my Veg/mother box. The demensions are 4ft length x 4ft width x 6ft high. I bought all the lumber for about $70 at Lowes. All together the box and the hardware probably ran around $130. I'm also going to build another box with the demensions 6'x4'x6' to use for flowering after my donated babies finish their ongoing business.

The light is a 400w MH that my father gave me. I have it mounted to the ceiling on a pully and rope so I can raise and lower it. I also have a fan mounted on the inside and some breathe holes drilled throughout the setup.

These little girls I have is a gift from my fathers friend. He is kind of an oldschool grower, He had about 35 plants in his basement under a 1000w HPS. They were very stretched because he had no set-up to raise and lower his light. He was also using some generic bloom fert.

The six plants he gave me about a week ago only 3 were showing sex at one week into flowering. After having them for 5 days all of them have turned out to be females. I was excited to see that after only 5 days flowering at 12/12 I have extreme growth.

About two days ago I noticed some bottom leaves on 3 plants turning yellow and falling off. I bought a ph meter and tester and found the soild to be at 8. I also realized that the plants were rootbound. they completely filled the 6 inch tiny pots they were in. Today I ran out and picked up 6 8 inch pots some FoxFarm Ocean Forest soil, Fox Farm Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom and Grow Big. I transplanted the ladies into the 8inch pots added the specified nutes to my water and gave them a nice douche. I followed the instructions that the Fox farm schedule had minus about a half of teaspoon. Hopefully everything I did will lower the PH and I will have a sucessfully bountiful grow this first time at it.

PH at 8!!!


This first batch is kind of an experiment. I wasn't planning on getting these guys but since they were a gft it has become a learning medium.

I have some quesions and I hope some of you can help.

Today when buying all these nutes he guy told me to use the Big Bloom, Tiger bloom, and Big grow together. I mixed the specified amounts in with my water and watered them with this after transplant. I was worried that since I transplanted into fresh soil and used the nutes that I might nute burn these plants but the guy said that these nutes help with transplanting and avoid shock to the plant. I follwed his directions but I am still concerned. What do you guys think?

I've never had a grow before so I transplanted as carefully as possible but what are the chances that I caused any root damage and could I possibly kill the plant by transplanting?

I think that's about it but if I get any responses from this post I may have some more.

While I am far from an expert, they seem a little tall. might want to lower the light or you may run out of room. Other then that they look fine, good luck.

Just lower the light and push the plants close together so they are all covered, but make sure they don't get too hot. Then you should be good. :D Get them as close as you can.

Whats your question?

They look fine. A little stretched but you already know that :). I would second that on getting them closer together directly under your light. There is a hot spot under the lamp that you want to try and optimize.

HPS would do a better job flowering. But I think you said your gonna build a 1000w flower room?...

I would start with 1/2 of the recommended fox farm dosage and work up from there. Big Bloom is good stuff and wont burn used by itself. Grow big is not to hot, but tiger bloom is. I use TB at 1/2 strength usually. If you notice tips of leaves burning a little just flush them with water really well and back off on the nutrients.

How fast does Nute burn show up? I transplanted yesterday and noticed nothing today.

Do you recommend that I only give them the nute solution water every other watering like the chart states?

Also, why is Grow big not so hot? If I know why then when this quart is gone I'l be sure not to get it again.

And when you guys say to flush with water really well does that mean to kind of drown them in water? Won't that cause the problem of over-watering or will it do no damage?

You are probably just fine. Would show up within several days.

I meant HOT as in will burn the plant. The FF nutrients have been good to me. They are of good quality IMO.

And when you guys say to flush with water really well does that mean to kind of drown them in water? Won't that cause the problem of over-watering or will it do no damage?

You should put about 3x the volume of water that the pot size holds through the soil to "FLUSH". When doing the flush before harvest. Do a Flush at the start of the 2 weeks and then just water till there is runoff every 3 or 4 days. It is OK to use molasses with the water the last couple weeks while flushing.

Hey Some Guy, thanks for checking in.

For the most part they seem to be doing better however, this plant was having the steady yellowing of the leaves from the bottom up. It's still doing it and I'm not sure why. there is onl one node left that is not affected but the top cola is bigger than all the rest. However where the old yellowing leaves were are now bud sites.

It's confusing the hell out of me. I'm also having a problem with the soil from the flush that I did not drying out. It's been 4 days today and about an inch and a half into the soil is still very wet according to my moisture meter. I'm not sure what to do or if this is normal.



Temp 80 degrees/day 65/night
ph 6.8
soil- Fox Farm ocean forest
No nutes or water since before the flush
Added a 200w cfl along with my 400w MH 4 days ago.

this is how they look now...for the most part they look a lot better than 5 days or so ago except for that one tall plant still yelowing leaves and dropping them.

Any suggestions?

Well, I would let the soil dry out another couple of days and give it a dose of grow nutrient. They do use up whats in the leaves, over flowering. I am 4 weeks in and a few of my plants are leaves are starting to look a little pale green. Those plants are a little lanky (meaning they have long spacing between inter nodes). Thus it has less leaf material to supply the buds with food.

It is normal to have long times between watering. FDD went like 3weeks between watering I think.

Anyway, they look better, and its a good learning experience. I think you already know that you want bushier plants when you do your own starts. :)

yeah you def. want some bushier smaller plants, look into topping or fimming for your next grow.

you can foliar feed them while your waiting for the soil to dry, (spray you nutrient mix on them) but don't do it when the HID light is on as the water will magnify the nutes and burn up the leaves (sometimes) do it right after the lights go off. Don't over do it though, and i don't suggest it in the later flowering stages.

also remove the damaged leaves! the plant will try to repair them and you wait it's focus on BUDS!
