Need help with exhaust.

Hey guys i feel like setting up a legit exaust system today but i need some help. Im doing this all DIY. My only real questions are......

For a 5x4x7 foot room how many CFM would the fan need to be for intake

How many CFM for exhaust fan?

The only part i plan to purchase is a carbon filter unless someone thinks it would be cheaper to DIY one sufficient for this room.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks alot guys

Would suggest to not use an intake fan- no need. Get a larger exhaust fan hooked directly to the carbon filter. Let this "pull" all the air into & out of the room- negative air pressure will keep all odors in the room & through the filter. Would rec a Can Max Fan 8" for your room with an adjustable power dial- can set the exhaust levels to your needs. Also a timer if want it periodic. Don't skimp on the carbon filter. Noise may be an issue. Don't skimp on anything for that matter- do it right the first time, especially with something like this. Best.

theres a formula for the CFM u need to clear the room, i wish i had a link, but you can search for it, maybe its stickied. You need a bit higher CFM for the carbon filter too. Most C Filters say what CFM it matches up with.

Sweet guys thanks alot. I did some searching online, i found some 8' fans that look good for 160 us. Does this sound about righ? The matching filters are about the same price?

you will want a fan that can exchange the air in your room completly every 5 mins. ...5x4x7 is 140 cubic feet....a fan around 200cfm and a rheostadt to control the fan speed through the life cycles(as your plants grow larger and use up more space you will want to turn your fan up a little higher to help pull the fresh air through all the foliage)i adjust my fan speed acording to my average temp and humidity:joint:

If that's your budget, I highly recommend you give this one a look-see -

I just finished installing the TD-150 in a basement grow room today, and I could hardly be happier. So quiet that when I'm standing 2 feet away from it, and the clothes drier is running on the other side of the room, I can't hear the fan. And that's before I build the sound-box around it. I wired it for lo-speed, and installed a $15 speed controller inline, so I can tweak the draw/sound volume as needed down the road, but honestly, for my 4x5x7 flowering room and 3x3x4 vegging room, I could probably have gone one size smaller and gotten the TD-125, which would be even quieter.

I also skipped the carbon filter and ducted it straight out the chimney, so if you're working on a budget, you could save a little bit of money that way. However you decide to go, I don't think you could go wrong with these fans.

Hey man thanks alot for that link, i hadnt come across that site. those are a bit cheaper than the one i was thinking about too... Did u get the speed control via the same website?

Nope, got the speed control from my local grow shop. I can check the box tomorrow when I go over there to do some more work, if you'd like to know the brand. Sorry I can't tell you right now, but the way I do it is I buy all the supplies, but the grow room is in my partner's house and I leave everything over there. Keeps us in total isolation from one another, so nobody can ever connect her house with the stuff I buy unless they physically follow me for days at a time.

But yeah, that fan's gotten some good reviews in the past here on Rollitup. That's how I found it in the first place. Seemed only right to pass it on. Good luck with whatever you decide, and let me know if you want the details on that speed controller, OK?

Thanks alot , ill go ahead and look around online see what i can fine but next time ur over there if u remember to look that would be great
