Can I grow with a 2700k cfl through veg and flower??

HI, i have dabbled in growing a few times, outdoor mostly in sunny uk. but also indoor with a mate, 250w hps, but am now planning a boat grow, avoiding leds (initialy until i trust my investment and know where to put my mone) have decided on using a 125w cfl. i have read a lot and am stuck on wether i can use a 2700k light throught, will this not work? or slow the vegging?

I don't think it would be enough to actually induce strong growth. You might get some small plants, but they I doubt they'd be strong and might get sick easily.

The softer light tells the plant that it's time to flower and procreate to survive winter. If you stay with just the 2700k I'm not sure how the plant would even vegetate much less move into the flowering process.

It will grow but there are drawbacks. Might grow a bit slower, because your plants prefer the blue light from 5k+ lights. In addition to that, the red light from 27k also promotes males... if you're starting from seed that could make a difference

that was the origonal idea, but i was thinking maybe 2x 2700k to give my budget more flowering power, and sacrifice some veg time/ plant size,

That is a very good point, so starting from cuttings would be a better experiment i guess? to avoid falling at a hurdle many have before and ending up with two dudes growing out of my boat

honestly man. obviously you are doing a small first grow? not an expert. take my advice. when it comes to cfls on that small of a scale you will not notice any difference in bulbs. if you had many watts than you might gain some weight with different colours. but with cfl that small the diff might be near dust. use 2700k the same as you would 6500k and call it a day. some will come on her talking about par and all. its very important. but on your grow if you get 15 grams instead of 16 by switching colours do you actually care. just learn this grow man. do it and you will be fine. get more serious after learning from this grow. and damn right flouros can flower!!good luck

just read more of your thread. you are all argueing very good points and you will prob succeed in the future but on this small of a setup just plug that light in and grow. you'll learn alot. is the extra gram you will get by switching worth the amount of my time it took me to type this. kidding and just do it. your to worried. you got this man!!

hehe, i appreciate your enthusiasm! yeh i havent done much growing, and to be fair its not about evtra grams, i just dont want to throw money away when what im aiming to do is maximise a cheap setup, as long as i know i can get the bastards to get to like 4 of 5 nodes high in veg on 27k then ill just slap two of them in, if the plant has to work hard and overcome some obstacles, then my smoke will be full of charactor!!

I agree, you'll need a "cooler" color temp for vegging effectively-- 5500 Kelvin to 6500K to 18000K. 4100K, 3500K 2700K-- "warmer" flowering ones. Keep em close and bright use the 27W minimum, just cuz. but 42W and higher is always better.

If you just use the reddish lightg of the 2700K, your youngsters will streeeetechhh and be spindly and not leafy. Blue-colored light makes them compact and lush with green leaves.

growgreen whats up? yah you know your stuff but i wrote kinda the opposite on this grow just to gain experience. your info is true but its not really going to make that much diff in a setup that size. i used to grow under those 45 watters and knew nothing of colour. i just bought a random 1 each time and on that scale never noticed any difference.

use the sunblaster 125. it comes in standard base size and any colour. and its the cheapest reliable 1 on the market. its the sunblaster 125 or 200watt. check them out for sure. not 200 watt equivs

just had a thought, what about a diy 4x 20w (all i can find for cheap) domestic bulbs on cool white, aslong with my 125 flowering, just to gice them something to stop them stretching?

the envirolites are 125w, both 27 and 64 k are 19.99 each, without reflectors.
the domestic cfl's are on offer, 5 for a pound, there all blue spectrum, 20w, i was gonna go with all domestic cfl's , but id need so many at that wattage that the fixtures and fittings and wiring would cost me what an enviro costs, so its a difficult scramble really

note: also the warm white domestics are like 2.99 a piece.
