Site Spacing design

Hey everyone! I'm new here and so I hate to post right away but I can't seem to use the search function correctly so please forgive me.:wall:

The info that I'm looking for is this.

I'm working with a PL 1000w HPS lamp. What I don't know is how deep that light will penetrate into the canopy. Meaning how tall can I grow with with decent buds on the lower branches before it becomes wasted energy?

With that said, I'm also trying to figure out the spacing of my plant sites relative to eventual plant height and width. I realize plant height and width fluctuate based on strain so I'm just looking for general measurements that would accommodate a variety of strains.

The site spacing will be fixed forever so I want to get it right the first time.

How big of plants do you want to grow? Depends on that. The bigger the plant obviously you'll need more room between sites. Plus whatever pruning method you use. I believe a 1000 watt will cover a 6x6 area

A nine foot sphere(roughly). At around 19 feet it becomes very faint(highly diffused). Both being the diameter of the sphere.

I want to grow them as big as the lamp will penetrate to the lower branches to produce decent buds down there. I wasn't planning on pruning much with the exception of lower leaves and branches when necessary. Sort of a large sog.

But how deep into a canopy will a 1000w hps penetrate? I've read 4ft? So does that men 4ft minus the distance to the lamp?

I was planning on implementing an air-cooled housing and a light rail. Planning on a 4ft x 5ft or 4ft x 6ft area? I figure I can get way closer to the tops with more penetration to lower branches. I just don't know the dimensions or my height limitations.

The attached image to me looks like a real good setup that I would like to emulate.

Thanks again for all your help.
