What he said...I would switch that arround so the bloom area is on the bottom. The heat from the HPS lamp will heat the floor of the veg room this will aid in seed germination in the veg section.
You have 7.5 sqft in each area. the four t-12 40w bulbs in the bloom section is 1200 lumens each The 70w hps is 7000 for a total of 11,800 lumen which is 1573 lumen per sqft. I like to have 2500 to 3000 lumens per sqft for flowering, go below 2000 and the grow gets longer and the plants streatch to reach the lights, buds could also get loose and and fluffy without enough light. I would replace those 40w tubes in that section with 6 42 watt cfls at 6500k they are 2,800 lumens each this would give you 3173 lumens per sqft in the bloom room.. Much better than the 1573 you have planned.
The veg section you dont have to be as conserned about the lumens I normally shoot for 2000 lumen per sqft for the veg room.
Actually the t-12s I bought are 2180 lumens each (Reading off the Box) and are in the 6500 K spectrumthe four t-12 40w bulbs in the bloom section is 1200 lumens each
7.5 sqft X 3000 lumens = 22500 lumens this is what you should be shooting for.kiss-ass

lols if it were only THAT easy. Talk about sweat equity. I am not being an ass intentionally but since the pots that the plants will be in are 15" tall should you not remove 6 cubic feet at least since that area of the flowering room is being taken up- by soil> ????????? LOL7.5 sqft X 3000 lumens = 22500 lumens this is what you should be shooting for.
The HID lamp is 7000 lumens, then add in the 4 t-12's(at 2180 each) you have and its a total of 15720 lumens. Adding 3 more of those t-12 bulbs will put you where you should be. So draw 3 more yellow boxes!! ROFL
Cause 8 42 Watt CFLs and a 50 Watt MH are in my vege room already. I had great success with the CFLS alone but I got a low wat MH cause I heard it is good for penetration.since you need to be more concerned about flowering, why not use both your mh and hps on the flowering half so that it has both spectrums and more lumens. then you can take off some of those t12's and put them on the veg side as they are perfect for vegging.
your not being an ass at all your just misinformed. The length and with of the area are multiplyed together to give you the SQft. Your not going to multiply that by the hight of the room giving the cubic foot because its the hight the lights are hung at an optimal hight from plant and are continued to be moved as the plant grows. Anything you read anywhere about the the correct amount of light to have will be giving you a factor in SQ ft not Cubic feet. You cant trip over a shadow there not 3 dimentional.lols if it were only THAT easy. Talk about sweat equity. And whay are you talking square feet should it not be in 3 dimentional cubic feet
exactly though... if just the cfl's worked great for vegging, why get overkill? put the MH in the flowering room and your plants will LOVE to eat up both spectrums during flowering. just my .02
edit: and also, since the MH is better for penetration, it would be more beneficial when your plant is in flowering stage anyways, this is when it triples in size and gets way bushier
"Penetration" isnt really the way to look at it. Reguardless what type of lighting make sure that you have enough lumens per sq ft and you will be fine.A 50-75 watt HID isn't going to give you any sort of substantial penetration. The penetration comes from the high intensity(like 50,000 lumens @ 400 watts).
I totally agree with this. If they were 400W or better HID it would be a differant storry. But those tiny HID lamps only put out 3400 lumen or so and produce alot more heat for that small area. Hang whatever wattage cfl's in there to make up for that 3400 lumen and your better off in that small box.A 55 watt CFL produces 3600 lumens. A 50 watt MH produces about 3400.
So, in that sense, you'd be much better off with a 55 watt Daylight CFL.
I agree too. ButI have managed to grow in what others wouuld swear was impossible to sustain plant life."Penetration" isnt really the way to look at it. Reguardless what type of lighting make sure that you have enough lumens per sq ft and you will be fine.

Yeah a HPS will give you better yield but he has more flourscent than anything else I would highly doubt that 50w of hps is going to make any noticable differance at all.
thats 23520 total lumen for 7.5 sq ft giving you 3136 lumen per sq ft which is just fine.
