Ideas for my new shed

Shed is up and now need to insulate and drywall the inside. It's going to be a sealed box except for a air intake port down in the back corner and an exhaust up top.

The dimensions will be 9'x3'x7' at the pitch sloping down to 6'. Going to have to be stealthy but should work. I'm going Aero and can only do 6 plants to stay within the law.

Thinking of splitting it up into two rooms for veg and flower and have access to one 20amp plug. I think the max for flower will be one 600w HPs and T 5's for veg.

What do you think??

That is a nice set up. This is something I have benn thinking about doing. Did you get a kit or did you do it all from scratch? How much did that cost ya?

I don't know if I would split it into 2 room though. If you are trying to stay within the law, (6 mature plants, 12 immature plants). You will not need that big of a veg room. Just a cabinet on the wall would be sufficent enough to veg in. It would also be easier to contain light leaks from spilling into your flowering room. Just my opinion. Looks good though.

It isn't necessary to drywall the insides.

Buy some of that polystyrene sheeting, about half an inch thick. I think you can get it from home depot but I could be wrong.

stick it on the walls, ceiling and floor and then panda film the entire room, making sure to use duct tape to make it airtight.

once this has been done you have a nice insulated room ready for hanging your light.

Make sure to cut the ventilation holes first.

I also think a box for the clones should be considered, not a partition. You could clone inside your home to maximize the amount of space you have inside the shed, once the clones are ready or the other plants have finished flowering, put the clones in the shed for vegging until you are satisfied with their size, then switch to Flowering light time.

This is just an idea, but I think it would work well for your needs.

Peace and happy growing.

Scorpio,

Thanks for the kudo's on the room! It was built from scratch with the help from a contractor friend and is STURDY. Total cost was @ $300 for materials and since it's not attached to the house, no building permit required. I still have to put some shingles on the roof and repair the termite rotted fence but other than that, the hard part is over.... your right about keeping the veg room elsewhere as it won't take up much room.

Arrid,

Drywall is a pain in the butt and the polystyrene sheeting would be much lighter and do the same job.....good call! The ventilation holes will be cut prior to insulation. Where do I get the Panda Film? Is it as good as Mylar?

Keep us posted with your additions and if I have any info for you I would be glad to help. I am going to build one of these as well. The best part is it looks like a tool shed.

Panda film, in my opinion, is so much more durable/useable than Mylar and it has relatively the same reflective properties.

Well, mylar does a better job at reflecting the light back but if you want waterproof, cleanable and easy to put up reflective material, panda film is your ideal choice. Plus it's reusable ;)

You can pick panda film up relatively cheaply.

Google and your local Telephone book will be your best chance of finding it cheap/locally.

Do you have a hydroponic shop close by, or perhaps one that can deliver?

Another name for panda film are black and white poly, so keep that in mind when searching.

- Happy growing.

Any new updates on the shed??
Scorpio,

Just finished repairing the rotted, termite infested section of fence and it kicked my ass! Installed a 4" air duct in the lower corner to pull air in. Getting ready to insulate and drywall then the fun begins getting set up with the goodies. My big concern now is that I have only one 20amp plug for the shed and will probably have to pull some more power off another outlet as to not max out my only plug. I was thinking of running the 600 watt light and fan off one plug and running the timers for the Aero and lights off the other to split it up. Any thoughts?

I can't get the grow going until mid May as I'll be on a cruise with the wife and then it's game on..... My meds are running low so it will nice to be growing again.

How many amps is your light? You might be able to get away with just the one plug. I have been drawing up plans for my shed like this andhave alot of ideas. Are you running an a/c unit?

I will agree on the Reflectix it is the shit. It is a two in one product. Great for this build. :weed:
If you drywall don't forget the moisture/ mold problem you could have from your grow. I will use drywall type board for bathrooms if I was to do it at all.
You could spray foam all of your cracks to help seal it up from the outside then Reflectix and tape the joints with foil tape.
Or you could slap 1/4in plywood on there and paint it white. With the wood you could put real insulation up first them slap the ply up there and paint and then calk the cracks up.
Lots of way you can do it.
Beef up the door frame and put a good deadbolt on the door. I would put weather stripping around the door to keep the light in where you can't spray foam.
Hope this may help.

I am designing my shed, (thanks to this thread), with a way to conseal an a/c unit inside and a vegg box as well. My biggest concern is when I open the door to get in the shed (at night), this big burst of light will come out. I am trying to think of a way to eliminate that problem.

I'm going to use one 600w to start and may expand depending on how the first run goes. I thought about a small a/c unit but hoped that by insulating and exhausting the air on a frequent basis, I could keep the temps down. You might want to use the white/black poly to hang as a inside door when you open the main door at night to cut down on light.

hunt4pot,

Good idea about moisture and mold....never crossed my mind! Looks like I'll go with 1/4" ply over insulation, much easier than drywall and then either Reflectix or white poly on top. The door is pretty beefy and I have a locking system ready to go. I do need to run some 1x2's on the inside frame of the door along with some weather stripping and that should take care of the light leaks. It's dark inside during the day aside from the door issue so I think I'm set.

hobo80,

Thanks for the support!

Any ideas on running a cool tube w/a fan and carbon filter and exhausting outside??

Hey i know this sounds whack:bigjoint: but you should possibly try to put the shed in your house. This way you wont have to demolish your house and you wont have to be nearly as sneaky. Also, if you want to split the shed in two than may i suggest a HomeBox Light edition, it will be a cleaner, guaranteed light and air tight. It also makes for a faster clean-up in emergency situations, such as fires or raids.

As far as ventilation goes, I have not gotten that far. I will work on some ideas and then get back to you. I will be running 2 400 watt lights so my vent should work for you as well. But you have a cool tube. I don't have one of those.
