My HPS died out and was all burnt up at the bottom looked, only 6weeks old, would it be ok to use the halide until the end of the day, it wont hurt anything, better than nothing I assume.
not true i switch mine all the time. its really like this do you have the gonads to try. change you light and come back and tellus what it did. oh it lights up.Here is your answer from cheapgrowlights.com.
Generally, NO! With very few exceptions and HPS lamp must be used only with HPS type ballasts and additionally a MH lamp must be used with an MH ballast. The only exceptions are specially designed "conversion" bulbs and a few "switchable" type ballasts.
I have heard that it will shorten the life of the bulb and ballast.OPH

this just happed to me, 600w hps bulb blew after a week and a half, (thanks HTGSupply! ) switched to my 400w mh (separate) although mine's going to be like this for a few days..
no i don't, its a strait hps ballast nothing specialwhat u did isnt magic, u have a dual ballast that works with both types of bulbs, but many ballasts out there do not have this feature
therefore it only works if you have a dual ballast. Gots nothing to do with balls
oh is that why i left them 6 emails about this with no reply, gotta call em i guessu can thank HTG supply because if you call them they will send u a replacment bulb for free
there is also a known problem with certain ballasts they sell, some bulbs will not work with them and they will blow out
it happend to me and they explained it was a compatibilty issue and they didnt know about it untill customers started comming back
so they replaced my bulb with a much better more expensive one for free. and it woiks great
