About germinating in moist paper or cotton

Someone working in a hydroponic supplies store told me that this process creates ''water roots'' instead of ''soil root'', assuming that you're growing soil.

Can anyone confirm this? Sorry if it has already been discussed, asked, confirmed, etc, etc..

HA

Never heard such a thing

I have always started my seeds with wet paper towels, or just in a cup of water.

And I always grow in soil.

last spring i germinated a ton of cucumber seeds, beans, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and brussel sprouts. had em all sitting in glasses of water, when seeds cracked little roots, i planted them in little starter pots. everything sprouted great.. not sure what the hydro guy was talking about. then again i know nothing about hydro.. just know i have had np germing in a glass of water and planting in soil.

and next time he tells you something like that, just say..."OH YEAH, well i heard if you shove seeds up your ass for 24 hours before germinating, it will give the weed a real skunky smell"...ha....its true
