Hi guys,

Im getting a bit worried the more i read. I am growing my seedlings in jiffy pellets (from where they were germinated). I am reading that I need to transplant when roots break through the jiffy pellets, but then I read that light kills roots!?!? Isn't this hard to achieve considering? Also I have Ionic hydro grow hw, ionic bloom and boost. What do I use and when? and what strength? Please help I can't find a straight answer anywhere (on the net) and am a complete newbie. you guys have already helped me loads so far and everything u say is true. So please someone educate me!!!!!

Yes, light kills roots, but only over extended periods. A few minutes for transplanting is going to harm anything. As for feeding, start them out at no more than 300 PPM or 25% of whatever the bottle tells you(not familiar with your nutes).

Ok cool. Thanks for the reply, was a bit confused!! At what point do you think I should transplant. Started light on Monday. This is the fifth day.

Anytime from now would be fine.

Seriously? I was told to wait 2 weeks by someone else but this did seem too long. I have dia hydro as potting medium. Do i place the jiffy directly into this or do I have to take the plant out of the jiffy?

Thanks

I would wait at least another week to grow a healthy root system. It'll recover better that way once you transplant it.

Shit, sorry mate, my bad, I didn't realize you were going into hydro. I know it's in the title of the thread but I must have missed it.
Yes you need to wait like Cr8 said, till you can see some roots, otherwise it's a waste of time and you probably end up over watering the little bugger.

Hi i can see 4 root popping out the bottom of my jiffy pellet. Do you think its time to transplant? Im using Hydro system (deep water culture). What i also need to know is do i place it in the new medium with the jiffy pellet?? The new medium is di hydro (stone sized white rock looking things).

Thanks in advance

Give it at least a few more days. You want lots of roots, not just 4. You should be able to transplant the entire jiffy thing. Do you have picks of the new pots?

I already ordered the stuff. Its a 16 ltr oxy pot system. I only have the one.

I'll wait for the roots to grow more. I've covered the roots with perlite so no direct light is touching it. Just out of interest, how important is it to measure the ec? Will it really affect the grow?

Also do i add 1/4 strength nute as soon as i place the jiffy pellet into the DWC system?

Sorry for all the questions!!

You said 300 ppm (is that a measurement of the amount of nutrients in the solution?). If not what is ppm?? How do i measure it?

Sorry for all the questions!!
