Red Eyes: A Chemical Reaction

We just had a very good friend of ours, a young stoner, tells us that he thinks we should flush our plants for 10 days, opposed to 7, at the end of the grow because HIS EYES GET TOO RED and he said he read in High Times that the nutrients can cause this. He also said his health should be OUR concern, which it is, but we are organic gardeners and think he is full of shit.

The stone from the last grow is amazing. We are old growers and have never heard of this before. Is he right? Are we the ones full of bs?

eyes going red has nothing to do with flushing. Nute buildup causes harshness and undesired tastes. Red eyes is caused from the allergic reaction one sustains from smoking the plant. Try breaking up weed with your fingers and rub your eye.

btw you should flush from week 7 on, so at least 14 days. You could also flush by pouring in three times the amount of water than the pot is.

your high is determined by the color and the amount of trichromes. get a 30x microscope and look at the tri's, the darker the more of a head high, white, body high, white stem with amber head, full spectrum high

and I can reign supreme in the knowledge dept over some of these young 'uns...he just left, but I showed him your replies...he was cool with it...we seriously thought he was joking when he brought it up (while making his eyes red again during the visit)...

I told him he should be thankful his eyes are getting red...damn it...;)

Anywayz, i use my red eyes to grade how good my weed is.

It's White Widow...that's half the room...the other half has Granddaddy Purple & Purple SnoCap that are 5 weeks out...I didn't show those, but will...

A tray a month is all we ask...;)

Very nice looking plants you got there :blsmoke:.

As for flushing, I find the best way to finish them off is the emergency flush method. I flush them in the pots for about 5-7 days then I use the emergency flush method for another 3-4 days.

I recommend the emergency flush method as it is possible to give the plants a good flush in as little as 3-4 days if you want.

I thought it was an allergic reaction to the smoke. I always got red eyes :eyesmoke: when I smoked but when I use the vape I don't get red eyes :leaf:

It does...its not allergy its pressure from coughing and straining.

Pollen is the irritant that makes eyes red...but pollen is a male plant thing, and we dont smoke male plants..
