Help me out - Is this a NITROGEN deficiency?

Hi all, My plants are in about the 3rd week of veg stage from seed, I started nuting about a week and a half ago. The leaves are yellowing up and then drying out and becoming crunchy from the oldest upward on all my plants - but MAINLY on my largest one. They are yellowing pretty slowly and the new growth looks OK, but I'd still like to fix the problem.


Here is the picture of 2 of the leaves a couple days ago.. 3 days later these leaves were gone because they dried up, and now more oldish leaves are getting the same symptoms. :sad:


I am using Advanced Nutrients 3 part grow, temps are about 75-85 throughout the day and night, and my PH is about 6-6.5.






Does this look like N deficiency, and if it does, what should I do? I'm feeding it on the normal AN schedule and hoping this will help.. Any input appriciated.

Is it just the lower leaves and are the plants thick and bushy? Lower leaves will at times die out due to lack of light penetration but if it is happening all over the plants then there has to be a problem.

It's just the lower leaves. The plant is pretty nice and bushy, and those leaves are getting less light, but it's a strong light (1000w mh) so I'm not sure if this is the problem. At first, the tips of the leaves turn yellow, then yellows toward the stem, and then starts to brown and dry out from the outside in.

I'm using some sort of so called "Pro sunshine mix", no nutes in it, and I am feeding about once every 2 days with about 300 ml of water, give or take 100 ml. It's not overwatering though, I already overwatered my other smaller plants once and it was much different :sad:

yea i know what overwatering looks like, thats why i didnt ask how much you water. i dont give nutes to plants from seed until about one month or when they look like they need it your plant looks good and doesnt look like it would need nutes more than once a week.

Hmm, OK, so I should just give them regular phed water every time I water them, except once a week? Wouldn't this make an N deficiency worse?

be careful misting, if you spray while the lights are on you risk 1. exploding your bulb and 2. burning your leaves (water droplets act like a magnifying glass and intensify light/heat causing burn spots). I don't see why you would be lacking N if you're feeding... low humidity may be a problem. Have you checked the PH of your soil, not just your water.

my soil ph is 7, i dunno about thread starter. Should i try misting them tonight with just some water during lights off of course

Hey, yeah I don't think it's overnuted at all since this is only happening on the bottom leaves (fortunately). I'm from Canada and the air in my grow room is always at 22% RH (which sucks) but I'm guessing your humidity is about the same, so maybe it's just the top leaves taking the water from the older ones in order to grow. I'm gonna try to raise the light a bit more and keep it a little cooler.. and also I'm gonna try to limit my out-take fan so that my humidifier actually works (it just eliminates the moisture when on)


My PH is around 6.3, give or take .2

Hey, thanks very much for the reply. I haven't checked the PH of my soil, so I guess I really should - the only thing is I don't have holes in my buckets for runoff water (I refrained from drilling them because I figured I could use the buckets for hydro at some point) but I will take some soil out and then run the water through in a dixie cup and test it, and let you guys know the results. This and humidity could be my problem, and as you said, if I'm feeding it wouldn't be Nitrogen (I thought that would be true).

Gonna work on this a hell of a lot when I go to my house tommorow after work. :)
