Shhhh.....Tip on how to decrease FAN NOISE!

I just responded to another post w/ a fella that was trying to quiet his high output can-fan. Those babies are loud just like many other high-end inlines & eliminating the noise is like parting the red sea....it can be expensive and ineffective.

The easier way out is a 2 pronged approach. Do what you can to eliminate noise...this means using insulated ducting, housing your fan in an insulated (DIY) noise box, etc...

These methods will only help to quiet the noise but generally it will not eliminate the noise.

The easiest way to handle the remaining noise is to create ambient noise. What I mean by this is to "MASK" the noise with another sound. Buy a $10-$15 box fan (or use what you have) & put it near your grow area (where the noisy fan is) in some corner or wherever. Set it on low or medium & I assure you, it will cover up the noise & nobody would be the wiser to figure out what's really happening.

Somebody walks into your room & immediately hears fan noise....where will they look? AT THE FAN IN THE CORNER! Your ears will not be able to distinguish the 2 different sounds....and that solves your "sound" problem.

This sound a little bit safer / smarter than having that unexplainable humming coming from your spare room / closet all the time? You believe what you see....you hear noise & you see a fan....the noise is explained subconsciously & no suspicion is ever arroused....snazzy idea aint it? Give it a go, and I promise you'll see it works.

Its a great idea, no doubt about it. Its like tactical warfare, but for growing. But I would love for you to find a desk fan that can cover up the sound of 3-12" vortexes. When you do, you definitely get hold of me.

Yo, I do the same thing. Big box fan in the corner. Covers up my S&P, 8" - 540 CFM fan, and my smaller 100 CFM inline fan! Gatt, I don't know how to fix your problem, but I know what to tell you. You're from the midwest? Share some of that bud! Still waiting to harvest and it's DRY!DRY!DRY!

Gatt - Can you not play some soft music or something near the op? Keep a small TV on the news or something? That will definitely throw some people off.

Wow I can't even imagine the noise level in there. I'd find some way to mask it though :) Install a vent fan in the hallway ceiling or some shit right next to the room like one of those annoying loud bathroom fans. It aint pretty but it'd get 'er done.

Yep it should be a standard media format youtube won't have a problem taking. Just make a free acct & throw 'er up. I saw this cool video once of a can-fan VS a vortex to see which one was more powerful they had them hooked together. Very cool video.

god damn the video is less then 1min and its 280 megs.. wtf! and i cant read it.. its .mov

what i do?

.mov is a quicktime file. The video you have is very high quality with high resolution which results in a large file size even for such a short vid. What you can do is use windows movie maker to edit it & reduce the resolution. You could also download a free trial of video studio x2 which will do the same thing. Windows movie maker should be pretty easy though...go to start >>all programs
