what up guys, just wondering what most ppl use for the lighting cycle in the veg state?? ive heard a lot about 18/6 cycle and 24 hr cycle just wondering what the best cycle would be?? going to start growing white widows from seed. also was wondering the best way to germ and prop?? my plan was germ in paper towels then put seedlings in rockwool plugs then into soil medium after sprouting... sound right to you guys?? anyway please help

I've seen a few very similair threads lately, and most say the same, either 24/7 or 18/6. Really depends on u though. I mean personally, I start em on 24/7, then a couple weeks afterthey sprout, I put em on 18/6 until flowering. Really havent noticed any difference in growth rates between 24/7 and 18/6 myself. Basically the reason I do 18/6 is to save a bit on the power bill, and to give the fans, ac, ballasts etc... a rest. Really up to u though.

my timer broke and I didnt turn my light of until 50m after I was supposed to, is this bad??
U got it fixed or got another timer right? Of corse it's not GOOD, but if u got em back on schedule u should be fine. I've had a backup timer for some time now just in case, along with spare bulbs!

iv have heard of a 24 hour followed by 12 dark as well. that's 24 on 12 off. repeat. i have heard ppl swear by it but i was never too interested in trying, plus i cant figure how you would rig a timer fer that. i personally prefer 24/7 cause you dont need a timer, and a timer breaking is one more thing that can go wrong to fuck up yer crop<as if there wasnt enough>. good luck dude and let us know how you do:bigjoint:

I have heard that 20/4 is the optimum veg timing schedule, with regards to end yield. Here is post written by OT1 on the subject:

We did a lot of experiments with light times a few years back using known sat and sat dom clone lines.

With Vegging ie under hid lights.

20/4 produced the most sturdy growth and the most bulk. Best final yield, taken as 100%.
22/2 Less of both. yield 88%
18/6 Studier than 22/2 but slightly less bulk. yield 87%
24/0 Much lighter in all aspects than 18/6. Yield 79%
16/8 The weediest plants. yield 67%

Plants vegged to final pots under fluorescents at 20w per sq ft on 18/6 yield 49%

Have not tried 36 hrs dark but did try 48 hrs from 18/6 veg. The final yield was down between 15 and 20% by var the pure sats the biggest loss in final weight and caused the odd herm, [sats] it did reduce the flowering time by 5 to 8 days.

For the mum lines we have 20/4 to 12/12 gives the best crop weight and bud quality, really thats all I’m interested in.
Taken from here.

I wouldn't advise that schedule, as 12 hours darkness will cause the plant to flower.

thats good to know and very interesting. 20/4.i think i might have to try it now. do you perhaps know where in the world 20 hours of daylight might be natural. i mean like im sure like in alaska there are places, but maybe a genetic strain that likes it extra, like alaskan thunderfuk. cuase iv heard of enormous cabbage and other vegetables and fruits grown in the arctic summers in a green house w/ no lights. you got me thinking nowwwwww mannnnnn
