I would not use town water, at least in my area. I personally use rain water or reverse osmosis. But if the PH is 8 you will need to bring it down to around 5.8-6PH every watering which can be a pain in the ass. If you live in southern California I would not suggest using rain water for obvious reasons.

I use rain water because it is the purest available to me, even more pure than the well water that is in the area. But it really depends on the location, I have been in parts of Tennessee and Pennsylvania where the water is amazing. Use animals for an unbiased test they can tell by smell what is the purest, I tried with my cats and dogs with 4 different water samples and they all chose the rain, animals have the instinct in them to know what is good for them when us dumb as humans will eat poison if its not labeled properly.

Not too mention that humans need a higher PH than plants so what is great for us is not always good for them. A PH of 8-9 is great for humans where that is pretty high for any herb or vegetables. Go with what is cheapest and most readily available.

If you use city water, you'll need to bubble it or let it sit our for at least 24 hours for the chlorine to dissipate. Chlorine kills the lil micro beasties that help keep the roots healthy.

good tip thanks.

so im worried about the PPM of the tap water being too high after the PHDOWN and bubbling.

i think that a higher initial ppm will allow you to put less nutrients in the solution

i have been watering seedlings straight from tap is this gonna fuckemup?

when you do nutrient ppm calculations

is it

PPM(original)+PPM(nutes) = PPM total

is it

PPM(total)-PPM(original) = PPM NUTES

in which way should i be calculating my ammount of nutrients i should be adding?
