Introduction and question -

New to indoor growing, though spent a bit of time in the great outdoors making my own green. Just getting ready now, so not too much too present to everyone yet.

I have a 39"x39"x79" grow tent. I plan on using 2 400 watt HID light fixtures in the tent, though most likely will only run one 400 watt HPS and one 250 watt MH.

My question is, what sized ventilation fan and ducting should I use?

The tent has 4" and 6" punch outs. Not sure what to expect as far as heat. Also, not wanting to create too much smell in the house either.

Anyway, I plan on making a grow journal as soon as I start the process. Should be a week or so. Have some Afghan and bag seed to start with.

I dont reallyknow shit about those tents since i use a closet. But as far as what to xpect for heat, u should setup ur lights and take temp readings at various levels sou have an idea whats to come heatwise. Nice panties btw.

Hehehe, thanks...the panties are my girl friend's ;)

I set my lamps up, but have not had a chance to shoot temps. I need to set the tent up and hang them to figure it out then. Is there a rule of thumb, like CFM per cubic foot to get a general idea?

i think if ur only planning on haveing 1 400w go wid a 4", but if u plan to have 2 or a 250w wid the 400w, then i suggest getting a 5"rvk fan wit 5" ductin ect, hope this helps. chek my journal if you get time and good luck wid growing indoors, its alot more fun than outdoors.

Thanks Learing. I will most likely have both lights running at some point. Would rather set up now with too much, than have to build on later. The tent is 69 cubic feet. I think that I will utilize the 6" vents. I want to filter the exhaust through carbon to keep the house fresh.

The experience so far has been really fun. I have basically just been getting everything together so far. Built a DWC system and am excited to get it going.

Yes richjames. Both lights are air cooled. I thought about setting one up as a cool-tube, but will probably stick with current reflectors for now.

ir ur going to be running both from the same fan, u may want to look into the 6"rvk as you are going to need quite alot of pull to drag heat from 2 400w lamps in cooltube.i find the tweeking 1 of the most fun parts lol, my grows so far have been very basic due to lack of funds, but theres big things to come :P

Nice. Those air cooled hoods should help alot to keep the temps under control. I've been lookin into findin myself one as well.
