Adding Light During Flowering.

i have a new friend. he is pretty cool so far. he has some plants under 1000w's of HPS. he has a 600w HPS that he wants to use alongside the 1000 watter. problem is.....electric costs. he can't use the 600w light for the whole flowering cycle. maybe 2 -4 weeks of it. the 1000 watter will run the whole cycle.

Question: When is the best part of the flowering cycle to use the 600w HPS as additional lighting.

i've looked thru some of my books and can't find the answer. any help would be appreciated. thank you my friends. :blsmoke:

FDD, while I am no expert, my gut instinct is during the last half would be most beneficial, when it is packing on the weight.
It would make for some nice side lighting.
It just seems to me that at the end, your doing everything you can to squeeze all you can out of them.
Peace

ok very simple...and thank you :joint:

2 flower rooms : starting first 4 weeks under 400hps and then moving to the second room under 600hps till harvest

hoping to harvest once a month......hope this makes sense
 :peace:

More fan leaves I can only assume will increase the amount of the light that the plant can use. I agree with Video.

Does yellowing of the leaves affect the ability for a plant to photosynthesize? The amounts of ferts i would assume would also have some sort of determining factor on this too. Since I'm sure that nitrogen is important for photosythesis. I'm going to have to read up.

i would say at theend half as well.not only for the fact to raise the weight of the main cola but also to add weight to those popcorn buds on the bottem the plants.

depending on the size of his room and plant number, if i were in his situation i would run the 600 in an aircooled hood the whole time, then the thousie the last two weeks. the reason is simple, 135,000 lumens/ 1000watts and 85,000 lumens / 600watts, the heat and electric consumption of the 600watt light is almost half then that if the thousie. the thousie at 2.5 -3ft away is not very effecient, maybe 90,000 lumens to the top of the plant. an aircooled 600watt less then a foot away. i mean i rock a tousie and am going to get another in after i pay rent. its a personal preference, imo the thousie does offer the penatration that you cant get with the less wattage lights. imo my buds taste and smell better when the light is further away, but you lack effeciency. if PG&E is a problem then that is what i would do, just my pennies. a small space heater runs at 1500watts. it gets cold up north at night at the end of the summer. i dont think he should worry about running 1600watts of light. alot of heaters will be going on around that time, so the fluctation wont be noticible. i think thats what the concern is anyway, peace and i hope this helps.
